Windows Start Menu Search

I have had to do this twice now , the problem seems to have cropped up since July's Windows Updates. My Windows start menu search every now and then will just time on a blank start menu page , can't type anything in the search area either, it just shows nothing but the search bar.

The only solution I can find to correct it is to restart Windows Search in services then to delete and rebuild the search indexing via the control panel under indexing options, after the indexing is complete I do a reboot and everything is good, but this is now the second time in a few weeks I have had to do this.

Would anyone happen to know what may be causing it?

Don’t know what is causing it but it would most likely be a Cumulative Update annoyance.

You could start with the usual:

• Command Prompt as Admin and run these one at a time.

• Try reset/re-registering of the Start Menu:

First part went fine until I tried to reset / re-register the start menu, stopped working altogether, trying to repair with an in place upgrade right now.

Well, that shouldn’t have happened. The in-place repair install was going to be my next suggestion anyway, hopefully that will fix everything.

The repair in place upgrade went ok , but still had to restart Windows Search in services then delete and rebuild the search indexing via the control panel after it was complete.

I have come to the conclusion it could only be one of two things ....

1. issues regarding Windows Updates but I have not seen others with the same issue
2. Something else interfering with the search indexing, I had Everything search tool installed, I have uninstalled it for now to see if the issue goes away.

So far, so good

My issue is the search results under recent get reset after the pc has been shutdown and I turn my pc on the next day the search box then brings up the default suggested list and its annoying how to fix
