Wireless Mouse Lag in Windows 11 - anything else I can try?

I had a Logitech M510 wireless mouse that did indeed need Logitech drivers, but I was never able to cure the lag and stutter. After months of trying to use it to no avail, I just bought a wired mouse and never looked back. It's odd, because my partner now uses it on her PC with no lag whatsoever. Not sure why, but I could never get it to work on my PC and we both have similar hardware and we both run Windows 11 Pro.

Could even be this mouse too. This specific M510 is circa 2011 and was part of an original K800 keyboard combo I bought back then. I used the K800 for 12 years straight before it finally gave out and this mouse is all that is left.

Might be time to actually consider just changing the mouse out - that is the cheapest and easiest first test later tonight.

Good thought and one that has run through my mind as well.

While I try to reuse/avoid e-waste as much as I can - I do understand that after 12 years - the stability of the case could may (but most likely has) changed. Certainly not adverse about bringing something new into the mix.

And I could try the rear port but my understanding on these Logi dongles work much better with a USB2 port if at all possible. This new z790 ASUS board does not have any USB2 ports on the rear - they are all USB3.1/3.2 etc

USB 3.0 is backward compatible to USB 2.0.

I have the Comfort Wave keyboard/mouse setup. No lagging here.

It could also be that the battery/batteries are weak.

Just wanted to circle back to this thread to report that the simplest fix worked wonders. I simply moved the Unifying receiver to a USB3 port and restarted the machine - the mouse is back to snappy as usual now.

Thanks for all the discussion.

I had a similar problem and searched high and low for a solution. Finally found it, though it may be very specific to the issue of USB devices (thumb drives, ssd's, etc.) plugged into a USB port. In my case whenever I plugged a USB drive into my front panel connector, my mouse would start jumping, freezing, etc. I tried all the driver updates, settings changes, etc. Nothing worked - until I happened upon a post by Steve108 on TenForums (and also a member here) that identifies this as a known problem due to RF interference.

This can happen when you plug USB devices near each other (particularly vertically stacked, or immediately adjacent USB ports), so, when we move the mouse receiver from Front USB to Back USB or to a 3rd-party USB hub, that typically works because we are physically separating the devices from interfering with each other. My solution was a simple USB extender cable that moved my mouse receiver away from other plugged devices. Steve referenced detailed information at https://www.usb.org/sites/default/files/327216.pdf. It explains in full detail exactly the issue. Hopefully, someone else will find this useful in the future. Many thanks to Steve!
