Wireless Security Camera Network with no internet -- POSSIBLE?

Hiya,
I've got an old Wireless Internet Router in my garage. (See attachment.)

I have a friend with a new restaurant. She might want to watch the kitchen and exterior from her space up front. It occurred to me I could help her install some security cameras that would also act as 'eyes' on everything. She isn't making a huge profit yet and so I presume she doesn't have internet at her restaurant.

Then I was like, wait, if you set up a network of cameras -- maybe you don't need internet at all?

Is that true? Am I on the right track? It would be like a closed network and she'd use her phone to access the cameras?

My inability to answer this question myself may have made my question unclear. I'm not asking about wired cameras.

I'm asking if you need INTERNET to set up a Wifi camera network somewhere? Shouldn't the cameras be able to connect to your phone without actually having access to the internet? That it's a 'private' network, as it were?

I use TP-Link security cameras which are self contained and hold a Micro SD card in each camera that can record continuously or movement triggered.

You can access the live feed or the recorded footage from an Android or iPhone, (or tablets, I use My Phone link to display multiple camera feeds on my Windows Desktop or Laptop.

It should work without access to the internet although this does allow me to monitor my home when elsewhere {anywhere with internet access).

There are rotatable cameras and also various fixed view wide angle cameras - these are purchased individually as needed there are fully waterproof cameras ( outdoor or maybe kitchen if this is very humid)

Thanks Barman. I've got a reasonable camera situation via Xiaomi and AliExpress. There's this 2K camera they have that's like two for $55ish.

I went with TP-Link rather than Chinese as they were a name I'd used professionally and there was very little difference in amazon price's been them.

The advantage of this system is you can build it up over time if you find a blind spot in security its simple to add another camera without rewiring

Interesting. FYI --

1. TP Link is Chinese too. Which makes sense because --
2. -- as you say they have good prices as well. (Two 2K pan and scan cams for $54? Wow!)
3. -- you can add as you go with Xiaomi too.

Not pushin' the Xiaomi, mind you. They seem similar to TP in this way.
