Hello,
Just noticed that when I sign out and then do a shutdown, the machine does not turn off. It goes back to the login prompt and if I do the shutdown again it then turns the machine off. This is NEW ....... Anywhere to check on the forum that might help?

You don't have to sign out. What happens when you just select shutdown.

Happy New... When I do a shutdown, the screen goes into windows shutting down for a second/s, then pops back to the login screen. When I did it a second time it actually shutdown ... powered off the computer. This behaviour is unlike normal for as long as I owned it. Other strange behaviour is being observed but I it occurred when I wasn't paying attention so for now I like to stay on the main issue.
Thanks for any help

The issue where Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.7462 does not shut down properly when using the shutdown option may be due to the "Fast Startup" feature, which is known to cause systems to appear as if they are shutting down but instead enter a hybrid sleep state, leading to the system restarting or returning to the login screen.
Try disabling Fast Startup by accessing the Control Panel (not the Settings app), navigating to Power Options, selecting "Choose what the power buttons do," clicking "Change settings that are currently unavailable," and unchecking "Turn on fast startup" under Shutdown settings.
After making this change, restart the PC to apply the update.

Thank you kind Sir!! Followed your instructions and restarted. The computer now went to the Background Image and showed the shutting down message with revolving circle. After what seemed like a longer time (than usual) it completely shutdown. This may take care of other abhorrent actions.
How can this be accounted for as I believe it just started. Is this a product of not having a faster computer or can I delete and or disable unnecessary programs and processes? Should I start another thread about these question?
Appreciated
