Solved Working with video with two computers

I have a couple of desktop computers. The older (slower) one has a DVD drive. The newer (faster) one doesn't. I’m wanting to go from DVD to USB thumb drives. I’m aware that I can:

• Save videos from the older machine to a removable USB drive
• Load the files from the USB drive onto my newer machine
• Edit the video
• Save the resulting videos to thumb drives on the newer computer

Both machines have access to the cloud via Microsoft 365. Is there some way to save the video to the cloud (OneDrive?) and access them with my newer machine directly? That will save a lot of time and effort.

Save the videos into the video folder and select the video folder to sync with OneDrive? (If it isn’t already, as it’s a user folder) Use Brinks tutorial I posted above.

Don’t forget you only have 1TB of storage on OneDrive.

It would be a lot easier if you used an external USB HDD rather than a Flash drive,

Any computer with MS OneDrive can share and view the video files saved in OneDrive.

Question: Are your computers networked together? If so, why not transfer the data over the network?

As for DVD drive, you can even share that. I use an old program that still works great today to share my optical drives with other machines. It looks to those other machines like the optical drive is attached locally so any burning program will work as if you had the drive on the local computer. That program is free and is called Paragon NetBurner 2.0.

With that in place, you could simply access the DVD drive as if it was on the new machine.

Ports 9260, 9261, and 9262 need to be open in the firewall.

Here are the steps I took to get this working.

NOTE: I suspect that you only need to do this on the Server side (the machine hosting the CD / DVD / Blu-Ray drives you will sharing) but I did it on both sides just to be sure.

Open the "Windows Firewall" item from Control Panel > Advanced Settings > Inbound Rules > New Rule... > Program. Click on "Next".

Choose "This program path:" and browse to the following location:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Paragon Software\Net Burner\StarWindLite\StarWindServicelite.exe.

Click on "Next".

Select "Allow the connection" and click on "Next".

Select which network profiles you want this to apply to. I usually select Domain and Private but not Public. Click on "Next".

Provide a name for this rule and an optional description and then click on "Finish".

Thanks so much for this information about Net Burner. And especially your generosity regarding notes (your steps to get it working). I don't think that I could've completed the setup without them. I won't go through all my errors trying to fly through the setup. Mostly my confusion on which computer is server and which is client.

Regardless - This is a marvelous program that I didn't know existed! And it suits my needs completely.
