Would update actually know whether a PC is " authorized" or not?

When Windows 11 was released, Microsoft set requirements to meet what is potentially possible with an 8th gen Intel processor in the future. These have a few changes from previous generations, due to new coding in the chip architecture.

At some point in the future Microsoft may need, or want, to utilise these new functions of the processor and have basically stated that if and when this time arrives then systems which do not have a capable processor, they will no longer receive updates .

This is not a major concern if the use of the new functionality is merely to add some new function of the OS or to improve performance as the non compliant systems will continue to work as they have been.

What may be a worry, is if the new functionality is need to fix a serious fault or threat that appears, and thus put non compliant systems at risk

By the way, the changes to the Intel processors actually started to be shipped with later versions of some Gen 7 Intel processors and 2nd Gen AMD Rysen processors, so these will continue to receive updates

On my last machine which is in the closet at the moment joining the dev level of windows insider was all, I needed to do to get the windows eleven update offered to that machine in windows update, which was in January of 2022. It is a 6th gen i7. I later wiped that machine and did a clean install of eleven with no problems, the CPU was the only disqualification. I think Microsoft is still evaluating what its final requirements are going to be.
