Solved X-Lite Win 11 Install - Can't change lock screen?

Hi guys,

Need a bit of help please - I can't change my lockscreen after installing X-Lite Windows 11. Any ideas? I've even tried logging onto the administrator account changing lock screen but on cold boot the first lock screen that comes up has the x-lite wallpaper and logo on it, and personally I'm a bit bored of seeing that now...

You cannot change your lock screen on custom stripped builds like Windows 11 X-Lite because these debloated custom ISOs often permanently remove or break core Windows components like the Personalization service, Windows Spotlight, and Content Delivery Manager.

Thanks I was hoping that wouldn't be the case. I'll simply have to do a full standard reinstall of windows then. I thought it might be a bad idea doing a debloated install... Probably best if I disable things I don't need after one by one on a regular install like I was doing before.

Yep, I'd rather decide myself what I don't want or need rather than have some hotshot(s) sometimes paranoid developers decide for me with some stripped down version.

In that case you have to cheat. I have installed Windows Server 2025 in a virtual machine to test it and it wouldn't let me change the default user account picture. I then cheated by replacing the original file with my custom picture and the same file name. Only side effect, each user has the same user account picture, I don't care. You could do the same. Find out which one is the default lock screen image and replace it with your custom image with the same file name. Default lock screen images are in the folder C:\Windows\Web.

Makes sense I had considered this workaround but tbh I think it's probably more sensible for me to get into modifying iso or windows image installs myself using official means like unattended setups etc as I'll likely not disable functionality that way that I might need or find useful later. No point in debloating to save myself a small amount of ram usage or gain 5 FPS gaming when I'm already running a rig that does what I need suitably. Thanks for all the help and suggestions . I have already reinstalled a standard windows 11 install and have just done normal post windows 11 install debloating.

If Windows 11 runs reasonably fast on my good old unsupported computer (see 2nd system specs), you won't notice any difference debloating it for your gaming rig. Just disable features you don't use is more than enough.
