100 percent disk usage

I have 100 percent disk usage. I am very surprised by this because I have a solid state hard drive. Is this common to have 100 percent disk usage with a solid state hard drive? I tried to follow all these suggestions.

Where are you seeing this?
Are you using Drive Encryption? If yes, that could possibly be why.

Try setting the disk usage tab to indicate the highest usage apps

I’m going to jump ahead and assume here.

If you're encrypted and you’re using something like Minitool Partition Wizard to view your drives:

• MiniTool Partition Wizard is not BitLocker-aware. It sees the entire encrypted volume as a solid block of data and assumes all sectors are used. This results in a misleading 100% usage display.
• Windows Disk Management integrates with BitLocker and can query the actual NTFS file system inside the encrypted container. It accurately reports used vs. free space.

Just FYI. On my laptop, Chrome uses about 58% of my disk all the time and shows 20 processes. However, I only have 5 tabs open. I also use "hibernate" with my laptop, when I close the lid. When I then open the lid, and press start, I get the 100% disk usage indication in the Task Manager. I then kill off a couple of annoying processes, but they are usually not the problem. Usually, the issue is with the Antimalware services that are running. This bogs down my computer for about 5-10 minutes, and then ceases to be an issue. Mostly, during my normal operating hours, I have about 5% CPU usage, 58% Memory usage, and 2% Disk usage.

With chrome, in the gray area next to your tabs, you can right click and open Chrome's Task Manager. This shows you all the processes that Chrome is running. I find that there are a lot of Acrobat processes running, even though no Acrobat are running in any tabs. While you can see everything with the Process Manager, I don't find it very useful and I really wouldn't stop anything.

I do not run any Drive Encryption, do not have One Drive installed, and do not have a SS drive. Only when updates are available, and downloading, do I have problems with 100% disk usage. I can get around that by pausing updates until a more convenient time.

I am using a HP Pavilion 590-p0097cb.

I do not have device encryption.

Missed one.

After backing up your system, you could try either / both of these tutorials -

• Analyze and Clean Up Component Store (WinSxS folder) in Windows 11​

• Reset Windows Update in Windows 11​

Each of these gets rid of - different - accumulated system crud that may be hogging space on your drive.
