My fave is InternetOff, one click to turn off/on the net connect, as well as password protection, scheduling, etc. I can turn the net off when I'm gone for a while & turn it back on when I get back. I don't have to shut the router off. That's just me, hate to leave the connection on if I'm not using it,

Yeah, I also like that one. I've was looking for something like that a couple of months ago without having to plug & unplug the ethernet cable all the time.

This is all I get when I visit that site. Prior to this static picture, there is a lot of fake scanning activity shown. It is an obvious fake, and can be easily thrown away. So I did. But it can make some users panic. So much for good free apps. And no, I don't have a current subscription to any virus scanner. I only use the built in MS security.

I'm just showing you what I get. I have never had Norton installed on any of my computers. I have been working on computers since the late 60's. Norton is just very invasive. They will try anything to make a sale. I have seen similar intrusions on Facebook.

Yes it does, doesn't it. The image I posted is where I get transferred, after about 10 seconds of the site pretending to scan my PC and showing me a list of virus's on my computer. Just more fake razzle dazzle. I am not worried about it. I just thought you might like to see what I see. If they have to resort to this fakery, to sell their product, they are definitely not worth it. I wonder if PCWorld knows that Norton is spamming people trying to access their site.

You have a triggered "redirect scam" in your browser. Not really a virus and AV programs do not stop these. If you continue seeing this, it may be related to a browser extension you have installed. In some cases, it can be removed by a browser reset and if that doesn't remove the redirect scam, uninstalling the browser and reinstalling may be necessary. Be sure your Bookmarks/Favorites and saved passwords are backed up before doing a reset or uninstall/reinstall.

    Printers in the office room on my main floor were both acquired from business customers who upgraded equipment, had me handle the upgrade and then haul away the replaced hardware. I have not purchased a printer for myself in 15 years.

    Main: HP LaserJet P3010 (black & white, hardwired, networked)
    Aux: HP Color LaserJet MFP M281fdw (color laser, fax, hardwired, networked)

    Internet in my house is routed through a TP-Link AC3200 with radios disabled. Wireless access points are two (2) strategically-located UniFi UAP-AC-PRO ceiling units which cover my whole house including basement and front/back yards. Netgear gigabit switches and CAT6 cabling are used for wired purposes.

    My home office printer is an old HP LaserJet 3015. I acquired this after a customer passed away and his wife sold their house and downsized. She gave me all his equipment. I still help her with her tech issues.

He's describing animated images showing scanning bars pretending to be virus scanners so he will click the link or call the number. I've seen this plenty of times. Nothing malicious unless you click and get phished or call and let someone in. If you know what it is, it's just a nuisance until it is removed. Until then, don't let anyone use the computer. They will think they messed it up, call the number and let someone "fix" it so the owner doesn't find out.

This is normally called Airplane mode. My first choice is Autoruns to turn off the third party rubbish you don't need to run often installed by apps of dubious utility.

For efficient decoding of high resolution video on low-powered hardware like a (silent) HTPC/laptop, MPC-HC still outshines MPC-BE, rather heavily IME. Unlike MPC-HC, MPC-BE lacks integrated LAV Filters. It's one of those reasons why MPC-BE is on my 20 free 'hopelessly overrated' apps. lol
