Was probably just a glitch on the MS Update servers.
And since it was already installed... didn't need the reboot.

IMO, it's best NOT to try to understand the Windows Update methodology, and just go with the flow. :/

This update took down two of my laptops (one Lenovo and one MS Surface). The two desktops in the house are fine. Explorer won't open, Settings hangs, Task Manager hangs, CMD.EXE won't open most of the time... crippled both laptops. One I could uninstall the update and it is working fine now. The Surface was a total loss -- couldn't uninstall the update because the Settings app wouldn't load. I couldn't even get into a repair or recovery app to try to fix or undo it. Ended up having to format and reinstall windows from a USB drive. Obviously, I paused updates on both laptops for now...

Thanks. I did, but I remember when I chose repair (keep apps and files), but it said it couldn't do that from a USB drive. It said to do that, I had to run the setup.exe from the USB inside Windows. Unfortunately, when I tried that, Windows got partially into the repair install, opened a command window that hung (like everything else), then the repair install itself just hung (waited a long time to see if it would move, but the CPU load was at zero forever, so I knew nothing was happening). So then I figured it was just best to start over, and that worked. Just had to reinstall all my apps and configure them which was most of the day.

@glasskuter If at all possible, could use your help with this thread. I do believe it would require a Clean install but, would like a second opinion. Second last post from the end of thread.

i almost lost my TuF gaming laptop after installing KB5034204, i got constant bluescreen with a very small text that says kmode_exception_not_handled ntoskrnl, and i was tired of seeing unhelpful sad face in there,
luckily i still able to boot in safe mode and then perform a reinstall to the first 22H2 Release without losing my apps and Data.
they should have more helpful bluescreen with detailed information about the problems and the source of it like in windows 7.
