If you're on Win 11 Pro... it will "probably" use Windows Update to run an In-Place Upgrade.
There were rumors about 6-8 months ago, that MS was gonna include that option in Win 11 Pro.


Personally, I think it's a lot safer to just do an In-Place Upgrade the old fashioned way.... manually. ^^

Windows, like all software is nothing more than a mass of ones and zeros. It doesn't take a lot to scramble a few bits, so that the program doesn't work right any more. If that wasn't bad enough, along comes a MS Update and further causes problems.

Some of us, know that, and keep backups of our OS's and even copies of the original ISO's that we downloaded.

I have for a long time, taken all the steps I can, to protect my PC's and the OS's they depend on. I do regular backups, saving several copies to my backup drive. Maybe even more important, once an OS is installed and running, I disable all MS Updates.

I NEVER have problems like the one that prompted the creation of this thread.

I think it's comical of windows to say reinstall windows, and I click ok, and then it can't do it.

I have never seen such a message, why don;t they just tell you the real reason it can't do this or that.
Not just oops, we did it again, can't fix your OS.

It is a preview update; it's possible there's something wrong with it.

Since the windows update method failed, try doing this from here to repair:

Yeah, I think I will wait on MS to see if anything about that update changes, it is not a critical issue.

I saw this FX6300 has SSE 4.2 which will allow an install of 24H2 whenever that comes out, so will likely wait till it does, then do that upgrade.
