25H2 VM will not boot unless Secure Boot is off

Windows 11 Pro + Win11 Canary VM.
I had a Hyper-V vm with 24H2 VHDX (gen 2 vm) fine and it boots fine.

I updated to 25H2 using enablement package and suddenly the VM would not boot.

I used Macrium Reflect iso fix windows boot problems but still failed to boot.

After trying various items, I turnerd off secure boot - got some error messages but it then booted ok.

Turned secure boot back on, then it failed to boot. Turned it off, vm boots.

I cannot see any reason for this. Not a major issue but definitely odd.

I guess I will have to clean install 25H2 to see if I get same issue.

Just throwing out a wild idea here, but it sounds to me like it's something related to the SB keys stored in UEFI firmware. As I said, I'm just guessing as I have chosen to run with SB off all the time as I want nothing to do with these keys coming into play. Guess I'm scared of something I don't half-way understand.

My thoughts also.
Update is possibly looking for either “Windows Production CA 2011” certificate or “Windows Production CA 2023” certificate"
Depending on the Update specifications, if the PC Cert and the Updates don't match, secure boot wont work.

If you want to know where your PC is at, download the following file from Garlin Check_EFIBootFile.ps1 (attached at bottom of the following post)

Did you manually update your Secure Boot Keys ?

lets be honest here. does the average computer user even need secure boot . Other than being a extra level of security what else is it good for ? Sadly, if you game, and you are addicted to games that use anti cheat tech, you need this enabled...

  • Place it where you want it
    • (I put it on the C drive)
  • Run the following command in Powershell as Admin.
    • (Change the path to where the file is and change your desktop path)

My desktop is on F
Powershell: 
C:\Check_EFIBootFile.ps1 > F:\Desktop\output.txt

  • After it has run, there will be an Output.txt file on your desktop that contains your UEFI Secure Boot certificate situation.
It's pretty fast.
