Solved Computer crashed. Will not boot.

They were 2x16GB from Corsair many (maybe 8) years ago, I doubt I still have the receipt.

If all three sticks are part of a set (same batch) or at least are same brand and model you can use them in single channel mode. Modules in psirs work on dual channel mode (in parallel) and improve performance. A single module or three modules work in single channel mode, that means at the RAM speed without the improvement in performance. I would try the two modules in slot 2 and 4 as suggested and the third at slot 3. If it doesn't work there or has issues try putting it in slot 1. You can buy one module of the same brand and model to make dual channel with four. In worst case it should work if it is same capacity and speed, even if it is a different brand and has slightly different timings. In that case all four modules will sync to the slowest one. Before you ask, yes I have done it many times since Windows XP era. It is common to buy some RAM initially and add more later. You cannot always find the same RAM, so you have to at least match capacity and speed. You can also make dual channel with one pair of certain capacity and the other pair of different capacity, such as a pair of 8GB and a pair of 4GB.

You could try to visit Corsair support site and fill an RMA form. Since RAM has lifetime Warranty you could use the serial number only without the receipt. See if it is accepted and if they cover the shipping. If they don't then decide if it's worth sending. You will have to send the whole set, not only the bad module.

Corsair does have a lifetime warranty.
IF you bought it from them... they should have a record of the transaction.

For every item under "Orders" on Amazon... they have a "View Invoice"

Most online sites that sell things, keep lists of your purchases.


Brick and mortar stores, might also keep records, under your name, address, phone number... etc.

That is a much more straightforward way to eliminate a bad RAM than trying two at a time!

Let's try the Corsair support site first. He might not even need the receipt since the RAM has lifetime Warranty. Once I was given a Samsung 250GB SSD which was locked with a password and I could not unlock it to wipe it and install Windows. I checked the serial number, it was still covered by factory Warranty so the receipt was irrelevant. I opened a ticket and eventually send it back to Samsung abroad free of charge. They replaced it with a new sealed unit!
