I have been having an issue with my Dell Laptop since I began trying to have my 2nd external monitor set up with my laptop. I have tried to use an external USB 2.0 connection which worked fine on my HP i7-155U touchscreen but no matter what I did I could not get the Dell to recognize the monitor. The monitors are an LG and MSI 32" screens and they each work fine when installed separately through the HDMI port on the Dell. The problem is only 1 works on the HDMI port on the Dell board and neither will be detected through a USB port. I just bought a TobenOne Docking station in hopes that it was due to a lack of power to the USB port and I was hopeful that the powered docking station would help with the 2nd monitor not being detected. Unfortunately, when I connect both monitors to the Toben docking station neither monitor is detected. I am at a complete loss of what to do next I have considered changing the response rate on the monitors to see if that will address the problem but I do not believe that should be necessary since I know the monitors worked rather well when they were connected to the HP laptop. I have searched the forum and I saw more than a few posts where the 2nd monitor was not working following an update. I have not seen any situation like mine that have had the same problem without the updates so I am reaching out to see if anyone has a suggestion that I have not tried. I have had the drivers reinstalled on the Dell but that did not work.
When I go to the device manager I can see the new Toben connected to the USB 3.0 port that is the thunderbolt ports for c-USB devices. I shows as an ASIX AX88179 USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter. I have downloaded an Ethernet update (Install_USB_Win11_11022_20_02062026)but I have not installed it because I do not believe that is the problem. I have plugged an external speaker into the Toben and it is functioning fine so I know the Toben docking station is not the problem. The Toben is the 14-in-1 Dock with the 100W Power Adapter that supports 2 HDMI devices and a DP device and it is connected to the Thunderbolt c-USB adapter. It is a plug and play device so there is nothing more it should require of me other than to connect the monitors into the appropriate HDMI ports. The TobenOne model shows that it is compatible with the Dell Precision 7730 and it certainly should support both monitors. Now I did see where it says the monitor support is a single monitor up to 4K@60Hz, dual monitors up to 4K@30Hz and triple monitors up to 1080p@60Hz. Neither of the monitors are 4K -- each of the monitors are 1080p so I do not know if I need to change the frequency to 30Hz but I would think that is not necessary so it should not be a problem if both 1080p monitors are operating at 60Hz when they were being supported by the HP throught the USB 2.0 port at the same refresh rate.
The connection options for the Toben is 2 HDMI ports, 1 DisplayPort (DP1.4) and any combination of HDMI 1 + HDMI 2; HDMI + DP; or, all three ports simultaneously. The TobenOne says it works with monitors that have HDMI or DP inputs. Usually, from the literature the plug-and-play setup should work instantly with various monitors. Like I said I am stumped and I wonder if anyone else has had this problem, espeially when connected to a docking station?
