Thanks for replying.

I find it less effort to use the methods I described in my post #39.
- I get at the Firefox bookmarks in a dialog that lets me drag them into my filing system by using the shortcut Ctrl-Shift-O
- I need to take an additional step to get at Edge Favourites in order to drag them into my filing system - see my ditty - Edge Favourites management [post #8] - TenForums
Once they are independent .url files I can do whatever i want with them.

I brought it up simply because Windows isn't the only OS that I use for browsing on the internet. So, each different OS (Linux/iOS/OS X/etc.) would require something similar to the URL Opener app for Android. With an HTML stub file that performs a client-side redirect, you effectively eliminate that particular dependency because, unlike .url files, HTML files are cross-platform.

I don't understand what you mean. The Save Link addon for Firefox lets you automatically download the HTML file, and, Firefox lets you define download actions such as Use <application name>. Manage file types and download actions in Firefox | Firefox Help
You can register a simple script file as an application in Windows and choose to use that. The possibilities really are endless. In addition, because its source code is on GitHub, you don't have to worry about using other addons that might potentially put privacy/security at risk.

I use Brave with DuckDuckGo as the search engine. If you put !g in front of a search, it uses Google but anonymously. There are many shortcuts like this. !a for Amazon, !e for eBay and even !Tesco for my online supermarket. All ads are blocked and pop ups.

browser question: I had to update my laptop Edge with the Apps/Repair Link that was on the board yesterday. and repair it? the 2nd time ! Repair Microsoft Edge in Windows 11 Tutorial

Why? can't I go to the 3 dots? up on the rt. of the browser, then - then "Help & Feedback" then- "About MS Edge" - I must have something toggled on/off? maybe some one has an idea please? my last Edge browser update was around the 10th. I find it amusing when people go on about browsers.

The simple fact is, for Windows, chrome is still undeniably number 1 in usage with Edge number 2. All the rest are also rans.

Browser wars are over - at best it can be termed Browser Minor Skirmishes now.

No amount of posts about A is better than B blah blah blah will change things.

In time, I expect Edge's share to increase but never surpass Chrome. The rest will only ever have niche status.

Even Firefox is doomed to be an also ran.

If you are streaming Netflix only Edge streams in 1080p, all the others only 720p
