Would a 700w PSU be enough for my SYSTEM 1? My current PSU acts like it's had enough. . I get random hard freezes, hard reboots, and even sometimes, manual restarts after an update, the screen won't show up. So I have to manually turn off the PC and turn it back on. Someone gave me a new 700w PSU.

Awesome! This good ole PSU that i currently have has been a good one. It's lasted 9 years. It can still work with a non-gaming computer system. I think my CPU prolly pushed it to it's limit.

That PSU you currently have isn't very good and 9 years is pushing it well beyond it's lifetime IMHO. No wonder you are having issues.
700W is more than enough if it is a decent. A good 650w should be more than enough.

What brand and model is the 700w PSU? Don't cheap out on a PSU.

What brand is the new one? I usually go with EVGA and I'm getting a 750w next month.

Seasonic, Superflower are the best bet. EVGA, Corsair, Asus, etc. do not make their own PSU but have them built by OEM PSU manufacturers. Depending on the model, your EVGA or Corsair may be a rebranded Seasonic or Superflower, if you are not so lucky it may be a lower quality manufacturer, especially on the low end models.

You pretty much can't go wrong with Seasonic or Superflower.

I know that EVGA and Seasonic have good customer support.

Thanks for the information,.. I'll get a Seasonic PSU. I found one on Amazon that fits the bill perfectly

That is nice info. Can you get me a link on that? I imagine that there are OEM specs imposed by some resellers. I also imagine that they aren't necessarily at lower specs. At least it's not a Gigabyte GP-PGM series :boom:

BTW, I'm using an AX860I. I still love it. (y) It's made by Flextronics (hence Flex PSUs). It seems that lower end models are made by Channel Well Technology or Great Wall (CWT)

No I don't have a link as such There are only a handful of PSU manufacturers and Asus, Gigabyte, Corsair, Fractal Design, EVGA. Antec and others aren't one of them. Not something they advertise. But here is a database to give you and idea:

A review database:

Reliable comprehensive reviewers (with tear-downs to determine OEM) I look at are KitGuru, Hexus, TechPowerUp, Tweaktown, Tom's hardware

That's a good list from whirlpool. Tweaktown, wow I haven't posted there in years. Really love their BIOS mods. Still have one running on a Giga 5UDH series.

That's a good list from whirlpool. Tweaktown, wow I haven't posted there in years. Really love their BIOS mods. Still have one running on a Giga 5UDH series.

The Whirpool list is pretty old though, hasn't been updated. To find out, you have to find a detailed review of the PSU, if there is one. That's why I try to stick with the top brands that actually manufacture PSU. There is also usually reviews of them.

My Seasonic is warrantied for 10 years so I don't have to search again for awhile I hope :D

Thermaltake SMART 700w. . . . . And it was given to me, so I can't really complain.

Thermaltake SMART 700w. . . . . And it was given to me, so I can't really complain.

It's rated at 54A on its single +12V rail. It's a very respectable 700W PSU, in terms of available power. I know nothing abouts its reliability, but Thermaltake is a well-established component maker.

I have read reports of poor reliability in some of the low-end Corsair CPUs in the past. The high-end ones are supposed to be good.

The PSU in my primary PC is from Seasonic. See "My Computers", System 1. (No, I'll never need 1250W. Or over 100A on the +12V rail.)

My secondary desktop uses an eVGA PSU.

I have an old "Silencer" PSU around from PC Power and Cooling. I'd probably still be using it (it's AMD red), but it isn't a modular PSU. It occasionally powers an open test machine.

700 watts PSU with its true power is actually more than enough. CPU and GPU run in its variable rating. High dissipation only happens when running massive games and high resolution vudeo rendering. It's indicated by the raising temperatur.
Keeping the unit cooling system clean and free from dust is the main key of an effective and efficient power usage.
Imagine 700 watts is nearly 1 horse power that runs a bedroom air conditioner. 😉
