A solution to the Edge shortcuts appearing on the desktop?

We'll have to see. I had Edge icons on my desktops and in my All apps lists for about four days in a row. Since I put in that registry tweak, I have had no Edge icons. That may be because Edge hasn't been updated (IF it hasn't) since I tweaked my registry, or it could, conceivably, mean that the tweak worked.

I'm waiting, along with @Edwin, to see whether others report the appearance of a new, unsolicited Edge icon when I have no new ones.

After removal, when you log out the Start Menu Item should disappear, at least it usually does for me.
And in those cases where it still remains, it's removed with a right click and choosing Delete.

Think of it this way.
Let's say MS creates a prompt for Edge updates. Every time there is an update, you will have to respond to the options if you want to install the update (click OK or Cancel). Then you have to respond if you want to create a desktop shortcut or not.
I think it is more annoying than just let it do its thing by itself and just delete the shortcut after. After all, updates are important. Specially for an internet browser.
The new shortcut is probably just a way of telling us that an update was installed.

Restart computer afterwards to apply.

Good point, but, I don't think they should bother, especially if Edge ain't your default browser!

You know me, I like "clean". And I enjoy cleaning up a lot... haha..
My desktop actual has 2 icons only... recycle bin and program shortcut folder. 😁

Another one to test:
Looks good, but I think I'll wait a few days to see whether there's an Edge update. I can't tell whether the first try (in #1 above) is having any effect until other people get the icon and I don't, or others get it and I do, too. If the latter, I'll remove the tweak in #1 and merge this one, and then wait for the next Edge update.

Thank you, kind sir, for taking an interest in this rather trivial concern. We appreciate it.

Well..., I didn't get one on the W11 Desktop where I applied the tweak, and, the tweak remained, even after the update to 25284.

But, I did get one on the W10 Desktop AllUsers...
