Solved Absolutely strange problem... file moving.

Ok... When I drag and file type from any of my storage drives and drop in on my desktop, it looks like this while I'm dragging it.
Big white box around it.




Then when dragging the file back to any storage drive... it gets black bars around it.




I use Winaero Tweaker, so I figured that might be the cause. So I exported all the settings, then reset everything back to Windows defaults.
Then rebooted the computer and tested again, without any of the Winaero tweaks.
Problem still exists.


Only way to "clear" the problem is to sign out and back in again.
Dragging files I download from ElevenForum or web... and save to desktop, then drag to a storage drive, don't cause the problem.

ONLY files that are dragged from a storage drive, dropped on the desktop have the problem. The white box around the file.
Then when that same file is dragged back to a storage drive... I see the black bars.

Looks to be background color related? Change your theme to dark theme so explorer background is dark and try that

I went all the way back to an Aug 9th backup and the problem was still there.
So.... I used Partition Wizard bootable and deleted all the partitions on my Windows 11 SSD.
Then I restored my latest Win 10 image to my Win 11 SSD. The Win 10 image doesn't have the problem.
Now I'm downloading the Win 11 ISO, and I'm gonna do an In-Place upgrade from Win 10 to Win 11 22H2.

Well, the background color on my storage drives is white, and the background on my desktop is black.
So, it may be that the background colors are being dragged with the file.

I have a current Win 11 backup... so I'm gonna try this In-Place upgrade from w10 to W11 first.
It only takes me about 17-20 minutes.

Interesting issue. I also get white background when dragging files from external storage, but when I drag files from desktop to external storage the icon stays the same, including the transparency behind it.

Well, my crazy solution seems to have fixed it for now, anyway.
At the moment I'm redoing all my tweaks.

I don't have the black bar problem, at the moment.

I'm doing the 22621.608 update.

Well, everything seems to be back the way I had it (without the black bar problems), except I can't remember how I removed the stuff in these two RED boxes...





I can't figure out how to search for removing these things, in the tutorials or on Google.
I didn't have them on 22621.608 before. But I had only done the In_place upgrade from 21H2 W11 to 22H2 W11.
This time I did the In-Place from 21H2 W10 to 22H2 W11.

Time to make a backup... while everything still works.

Well, I got a backup made. Everything is kosher except that search menu stuff. :/

Doing an In-Place upgrade from W10 21H2 to W11 22H2 involved a LOT more tweaking,
than W11 22H1 to W11 22H2.

Gawd... what a day.
Up above you can see what the plan was. For the most part it succeeded.
However, sometime in the past day or two, I decided, maybe I had a virus, so I ran a scan.
Supposedly, just a scan of my SSD. But no... for some reason Bitdefender decided to scan my storage drives.

Unfortunately, one of the old games I have and play, 4x4 Evolution (racing game), has some...
patches so that it will run on a modern computer. It seems Bitdefender has some issue with the patches.

So... one of the largest and most complicated games to install, went bananas on both my W10 and W11 SSDs.
The fix would have been fairly simple if I had been fully awake. Anyway, I reinstalled the entire game.
Ofc, it works now, but on top of all the other stuff I did last night and today... it was a large helping of...

Way too much!! LOL

Long story, short... everything is back to normal, and the black bars problem is fixed.
I still have all that useless junk on my Search page, but that more of an annoyance I can research in no great hurry.

So, I'm gonna mark this solved. And... thank god for backup software.
