CopyTo_MoveTo_banner.png

This tutorial will show you how to add or remove "Copy To folder" and "Move to folder" to the context menu for all users in Windows 11.

When you press and hold or right click on selected file(s) and folder(s), click/tap on Show more options, and click/tap on Copy To folder, it will copy them to a location you select immediately.

When you press and hold or right click on selected file(s) and folder(s), click/tap on Show more options, and click/tap on Move to folder, it will remove them from their current location and move them to a location you select immediately.

While you must me signed in as an administrator to add or remove "Copy To folder" and "Move to folder" to the context menu, all users will be able to use the context menu if added.

To also Copy file(s) regardless of the source and target destination, hold down the CTRL key while you drag and drop the file(s).

To also Move file(s) regardless of the source and target destination, hold down the SHIFT key while you drag and drop the file(s).

Thank you for posting this download. I just recently installed Windows 11 on my laptop, and I was almost having a minor panic attack because I couldn't find the "move to" option anymore for my files. You are a lifesaver. Do you know why the ribbon bar with the tabs was removed from the File Explorer? That really bothers me, because it was so helpful, and I feel like this new update makes things more click intensive and difficult. Thanks again!

Hello, :-)

I'm glad it could help.

Microsoft has replaced the Ribbon with a more modern, less cluttered, and touch friendly command bar. I miss the ribbon as well.

If you like, you can use either tutorial below to enable the Ribbon in File Explorer again.

Again, you are amazing. Thank you so much! I didn't know it was possible to restore the original formats from Windows 10... I am grateful I found this forum this morning. I know very little about writing code, so I am grateful that you've done all the hard work for me!

I have an ongoing issue with Windows Fax and Scan, WIN10. When I want to move a file I just made by scanning, Move to Folder only has the existing folder, and no way to add another folder to the list. Totally useless. It seems I have to jump through flaming hoops each time in order to extricate a scanned document. Please help. I can never find a forum topic that addresses it, as it always is about how to add or delete the context menu; I'm just trying to use the bloody thing.

Hello, :)

You should be able to select a folder in the Move Items dialog below, and click on the Make New Folder to create a new folder in the selected folder.

Just to verify, did you add the context menu from the tutorial?
