This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off showing Xbox Mode in Task View for your account in Windows 11.

Starting with Windows 11 build 26100.8328 (24H2), build 26200.8328 (25H2), and build 28000.2179 (26H1), Xbox mode is now available on Windows 11 PCs, including laptops, desktops, and tablets.

Xbox mode is a console inspired, dedicated gaming experience that gives players a controller-optimized way to navigate and play on Windows. When using Xbox mode, Windows will start your gaming home app to use as a launcher for your games and apps and games will be run full screen.

Once you’ve entered Xbox mode, you’ll see the Xbox home screen and can access your games, including Xbox, Game Pass, Xbox Play Anywhere, and your installed games from other popular storefronts. It’s easy to switch between your open apps and games with just a long press on the Xbox button on your controller or on your keyboard.

You will see Xbox mode in Task View by default used to enter and exit Xbox Mode with.

You can turn off showing Xbox Mode in Task View if wanted.

Option One

Add or Remove Xbox Mode in Task View in Settings


1 Open Settings (Win+I).

2 Click/tap on Gaming on the left side, and click/tap on Xbox mode on the right side. (see screenshot below)

3 Turn On (add - default) or Off (remove) Show Xbox mode in Task View for what you want. (see screenshot below)

This setting requires Enable Xbox mode turned on.

4 You can now close Settings if you like.




Option Two

Add or Remove Xbox Mode in Task View using REG file


1 Do step 2 (add) or step 3 (remove) below for what you want.

2 Add Xbox Mode in Task View

This is the default setting.


A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.​

3 Remove Xbox Mode in Task View

A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.​

4 Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5 If you have Smart App Control turned on, you will need to unblock the downloaded REG file.

6 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

7 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

8 You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.
