That's great.

Technically, Edit and Open in this case (for Komposer) would have exactly the same result, I'd guess...

You could just change Open with Edit in the reg file, I'd assume.

If you want to repeat this for other file types (like .htm, .xml, .txt, etc.), just duplicate the blocks in the reg files and change .html to the desired extension.
Or duplicate the reg file, change the extension and rename the reg file.

I renamed "Open With KompoZer" in the registry with "Edith with KompoZer", but it had no effect - it still shows up as "Open with ..". Even rebooted explorer. Once I've sent this I'll reboot the pc and see if that makes a difference.

EDIT: Edit, not Edith. :)

I rebooted and it still says "Open With ...".

Changing the default to kompozer is not an option given how often I load a local html file, so the browser needs to remain the default.

Ahh .. solved .. in order to get it to show up as "Edit with.." there's a string inside the keys which needs to have the value change to Edit with ...

The bottom line is, regardless what you call it, it’s still going to perform exactly the same action
Perhaps you need to open Regedit with elevated privileges. Personally, I’d leave it but you could experiment, just undo whatever doesn’t work before you try something lese.

  • You may need to run Regedit with elevated privileges. To do so, download Power Run (Download at the bottom of the page)

  • Download PowerRun Extract the archive
  • Right click on and run PowerRun_x64.exe as administrator (it’s a portable app, nothing installs)
  • Open Regedit
  • Go to "System Tools" "Registry Editor"
