I have 26 registry files and want to add them into one single file but I'm not sure how correct I'm doing it.

For example

file #1
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

; Created by: Shawn Brink
; Created on: December 6, 2022
; Tutorial: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/add-empty-recycle-bin-to-context-menu-in-windows-11.10981/

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\empty]
"CommandStateHandler"="{c9298eef-69dd-4cdd-b153-bdbc38486781}"
"Description"="@shell32.dll,-31332"
"Icon"="%SystemRoot%\\System32\\imageres.dll,-54"
"MUIVerb"="@shell32.dll,-10564"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\empty\command]
"DelegateExecute"="{48527bb3-e8de-450b-8910-8c4099cb8624}"

file #2
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

; Created by: Shawn Brink
; Created on: September 23, 2022
; Updated on: November 5, 2025
; Tutorial: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/enable-or-disable-delay-of-running-startup-apps-in-windows-11.9144/

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Serialize]
"Startupdelayinmsec"=dword:00000000
"WaitForIdleState"=dword:00000000

file #3
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

; Created by: Shawn Brink
; Created on: September 19, 2021
; Tutorial: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/enable-or-disable-file-history-in-windows-11.1395/

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory]
"Disabled"=dword:00000001

Now I would open notepad and merge all three files like so:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\empty]
"CommandStateHandler"="{c9298eef-69dd-4cdd-b153-bdbc38486781}"
"Description"="@shell32.dll,-31332"
"Icon"="%SystemRoot%\\System32\\imageres.dll,-54"
"MUIVerb"="@shell32.dll,-10564"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\empty\command]
"DelegateExecute"="{48527bb3-e8de-450b-8910-8c4099cb8624}"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Serialize]
"Startupdelayinmsec"=dword:00000000
"WaitForIdleState"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory]
"Disabled"=dword:00000001

and save the file as .reg

Is that it?

Is that it?
Yup.
First, the file must begin with the exact header Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 on the very first line so Windows recognizes the file type. Second, every registry path must be enclosed in square brackets (e.g., [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\...]) so the system knows exactly where to apply the changes. Finally, you must use a line break (blank space) between each command and entry to prevent the text from bunching together into a single broken line. As long as each distinct registry path starts on its own new line with its square brackets, Windows will easily read and apply all of your tweaks at once.

Just don't copy this stuff...

...then just add the other reg files to the bottom of the main one, without the headings.

Just in case... export the registry first, so if you mess something up, you'll have an easy fix.

For example... here's the four you posted, combined...

You only need this line once... Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\empty]

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
WinaeroTweaker has a Tool to do that also...

If you are merging registry files you might want to keep the comments from each original file so you know what the different sections are meant to achieve.

Also bear in mind that writing to HKLM requires different permissions than writing to HKCU. If you're using an account that doesn't belong to the administrators group mixing the two won't work. I'd suggest separating them into different files.

In practice the registry files that target HKCR that @Brink provides in tutorials will also require admin rights.
