Adobe pdf in printer menu?

Adobe PDF has recently appeared in my printers list. It wasn't there before. I have Acrobat installed so maybe an update to that? Or is it something to do with creative cloud? I don't think I need it there as if I want to print to pdf I use microsoft print to pdf.

Yes; when you installed Acrobat, it also installed the Adobe PDF driver. You may safely ignore it if you wish and continue using the MS Print to PDF driver.

That printer comes with your Acrobat installation. Not with the reader but with the full Acrobat PDF suite

I have never used the Acrobat version of the printer, but my guess would be that you get more fine grained control with the Adobe one compared to the MS PDF printer. The MS one is a very basic printer driver.

Thanks. I don't have the full Acrobat installation. I recently had a trial of it, which I cancelled. In creative cloud it also shows up as "free trial available".

However, I did notice Adobe Acrobat Distiller installed itself recently - didn't know what it was. Could that be it?

I don't recall Distiller adding a printer driver because that one is an actual document to PDF conversion tool. It is very possible that they simplified the tools and now use an unified printer driver for everything. I am not sure. I only use Adobe reader, because it is the most reliable one so far for reading PDFs.

I just installed Adobe Acrobat "free trial available" in creative cloud. That just fully uninstalled Acrobat Reader! And Distiller went too. So am reinstalling acrobat reader again.

I don't really want Creative cloud - it's annoying - but need it for photoshop.

So now Distiller has gone from the Apps list and Adobe had gone from the print menu. That's better. That's how I've always had things before.

Also One Note appears in my printer list. I never use it. But can't seem to uninstall One Note. It appears in my apps list but if I go to uninstall it, it just takes me to the settings apps list and it's not in there. Actually maybe it's part of my office installation so can't be removed perhaps.

Have just removed it from the printers list - which seems to have worked.

Just a note, I have Adobe Distiller as part of Adobe Acrobat 8 install, also comes with Adobe Acrobat 9. Not with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.

I have a computer with 2 versions of OneNote, one came with Windows and the other came with Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365.

Thanks. All back to normal now. No distiller and no entry in printer list. I'm guessing it was hangover from a free trial I started when I wanted to edit a pdf a month or so ago. Started the free trial and then cancelled it.
