Standard laptop sound quality isn't great, nor is it from Logitech speakers plugged into Dell monitor, so I tried open source FXSound.
Certainly boosts everything! 😁
Could do with automatic volume control though to limit dynamic range, and it minimises rather than closes when clicking close.
Want something similar with the 2 points above addresses. Free or paid. Don't want to sign up either. Not bloated - don't need a studio mixer!
Suggestions?

I can say that FxSound is a very good sound enhancer that does more than just raise the volume.

I use it with my SoundBlasterX G6 and I do notice a difference when using one of the presets as those adjust the entire spectrum.

The settings panel is a little sparse, but it does what it needs to do.

I haven't had a need to look for anything else since FxSound is free (contributions accepted but not required) and is still being worked on as it's Open Source.

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
FxSound I find is far more reliable than the Peace Equaliser APO - which needs 2 downloads and installations for a simpler GUI.

On this laptop (not tried it with another) occasionally the GUI fails to start properly and shows on the desktop as a blank grey box - have to kill with task manager. Also relatively frequently requires reinstall for it to have any effect.

Overdue for removal!
