To all who hate A.I and co pilot -- I'm finding it more and more useful almost every day and it's only the beginning of this stuff -- This app particularly good on my samsung S26 Ultra phone with the 8.5 UI but also is in 9.0 beta if you've installed that one (it's the International / EU version with only esim so the phone or feature might not be available on phones bought in the UK or USA) .

Call assistant. This generates a request message for the caller to enter their name and the reason for calling which is displayed on your phone - you can agree to continue as text, answer or reject the call, block the number, assign to spam etc etc -- you can of course at any time answer the call normally -- when you get a call the call assistant button appears so you don't have to enter it but can just answer the call normally.

Brilliant very useful bit of app - especially when you get those annoying calls from Indian etc call centres from Customer (dis-)services after buying something or complaining about something and they call later with "how did we do" etc type rubbish. Well done Samsung -- mind you the app was not obvious to find in the phone's options.

I've looked in colleagues iPhones, latest one's and they at least I can't find it don't seem to have this app or equivalent - but I'm no expert on iPhones. Perhaps an iPhone user could reply if there is an equivalent app and how to activate it. !!

As far as A.I / Copilot is concerned I'm semi-retired now and this stuff helps so much these days on gigs - people who are young enough to be my grandkids seem to have no conception of the power of this stuff and take ages to do stuff that I can complete in minutes or hours !!!.

Over Every office there should be displayed rather like the famous motto over a notorious WWII death camp "Arbeit Macht Frei" -- changed for modern use "Work Smarter not Harder" !!!

Cheers
jimbo

Frankly, in my opinion, it is a load of pretentious hype.

I have tried using it for a while but gave up as it was a PITA to use effectively.

In most cases the callers just rang off and genuine ones called back later.

Worse, you get a genuine reply whilst using it but unless you monitor it closely (rather defeating point of it), you end up not responding in time. The guys expect a response in a couple of seconds and ring off.

In the end, I just look at the calling number 0300 numbers in UK are usually genuine (typically NHS) so I answer. I tend to ignore 07 mobile numbers which are not in my contacts. If the call is important, they will leave a voice mail.

I generally ignore most regional landline 01 numbers as well (unless 01224 (Aberdeen) numbers) as most are spam calls.

The point is if the call is important, they will leave a message.

So in the end, to me this feature is "A solution to a problem I never had".

So my method is simple - answer if I recognise call, let it go to voicemail if I do not! This method uses HI (Human Intelligence).

Not sure how esims are relevant to your post. The full set of AI features on Samsung are flagship (and year) model based not on esim/nanosim ability.
An A series Samsung will only have a subset of the S series. Older S series out of support e.g. S22 (shamefully) does not have UI8.5.

There is on AI feature that is genuinely useful to me as a deaf person and that is "Audio Eraser".

It significantly reduces background noise including Hollywood Director's anal fetish for loud background music that makes soft foreground speech very difficult to hear properly.

With Samsung UI8.5, the feature was enhanced and works on live streams e.g. netflix, bbc iplayer, youtube etc. I find I miss much less of the speech now.

For any hard of hearing / deaf person I strongly recommend getting a mobile phione with this feature. Regrettably, it is only on flagship models but is available on the cheaper FE models such as S25 FE.

It is interesting to note that Iphones do not have such a feature. Since I bought the S25 FE, I rarely use my iphone anymore.

I'm thinkin' ..... hmmm ... snake oil, that's it!!!

I much prefer to monitor my own calls rather than rely on some bot deciding who should be allowed to talk to me and who should not

Worked pretty well up to now, no reason to think otherwise

I'd be happy with just a small app that will block any caller or text/sms from senders not in my contacts. No ring, no alert, no send to voicemail. Apparently, this is something Google would not be happy with.

It feels so good to have a dumbphone.. no worries about apps, no worrying that the OS stopping to be supported so you have to trash a fully working phone and buy a newer one, just to get new security updates. 😎

I don't need an app for that. I just have the default ringtone as silent, then use ringtones for family/friends/businesses I have custom with.
If the call is important the caller will leave a message (99.9% of the time they don't). So assumed to be spam

This sound annoying at best and an unnecesary work for the caller.
Continue as text..... If someone is calling, why would they continue as text? They would just messaged you instead in the first place. Not to mention that the caller must be aware of this app and be ready to answer your request to text instead, which any normal phone call don't even considers.
Block the number, assign to spam, answer, reject, normal options in any phone contact list, why would you need another thing for this?
Seems like marketing catchphase instead of anything useful and truly innovative.
Besides that, as you market it as an AI thing, there is no sign of anything AI in that.

As far as A.I / Copilot is concerned I'm semi-retired now and this stuff helps so much these days on gigs - people who are young enough to be my grandkids seem to have no conception of the power of this stuff and take ages to do stuff that I can complete in minutes or hours !!!.

My motto is "You use AI when you don't care about the result".
When you let the AI do something and specially don't VERY carefully check the results you expose to completely inconsistent things, an overly artificial language that gives your AI usage away, lack of professionalism, progressive degradation of critical thinking and some social abilities, every data it uses instantly becomes publicly available, completely wrong results based on made up assumptions or non existent references, among others. But yeah, you would complete it in minutes while a serious worker would take more time.

AI usage in schools and learning in general has already been proven harmful to a number of critical abilities of students. Basically, they do nothing, chatgpt would do it for you, leading to they becoming inept at pretty much everything but asking AI.

And let's not forget that the AI gigantic bubble is yet to burst. It's astronomical costs have yet to be paid, so let's be on the watch for when something big happens.

Over Every office there should be displayed rather like the famous motto over a notorious WWII death camp "Arbeit Macht Frei" -- changed for modern use "Work Smarter not Harder" !!!

So you suggest using a nazi slogan glorifing the holocaust on every single work place?

Same here.. for myself :-)
I had a smartphone 2009ish and i got so tired on everyone expected me to answer emails 24/7 always be online.. i just had it after 6 months and put that smartphone in my bookcase drawer and took my old phone again.. then a few years later they gave me a new smartphone S6 and told them i wont need it and they said take it anyway if you change your mind.. a few years later i got an Xperia 5 with the same reason.. they all ended up in the same drawer.

A smartphone nowadays is like when i first got a mobile phone 1994.. i needed to always carry my bag all the time... as the phone was to darn big for normal pockets.. a smartphone the same... it dont fit in my pocket and i need to always carry a bag to bring my phone..
sure i like nostalgia, but not everyday. *LOL* 😅

Pixel phones have done this for a long time, its the main reason I use pixels.

Call screening is a must. I have never gotten a spam call ever again.

It's also very customizable.

Very true, Google Pixels have by far the best implementation of call screening.

I also use call screening on my Samsung phone, which saves a lot of irritation from the spammers.

I don't need an app for that. I just have the default ringtone as silent, then use ringtones for family/friends/businesses I have custom with.
If the call is important the caller will leave a message (99.9% of the time they don't). So assumed to be spam
Not the same.

No but it works for me.
If a spammer calls I don't want something confirming that the number is valid, that makes more spam likely. I just ignore, and then block when they hang up

A smartphone nowadays is like when i first got a mobile phone 1994.. i needed to always carry my bag all the time... as the phone was to darn big for normal pockets.. a smartphone the same... it dont fit in my pocket and i need to always carry a bag to bring my phone..
If size is the only reason: I recently bought your Swedish Doro Aurora A10 for just that reason. Very nice, fits in every pocket, even the chest pocket of your shirt or blouse. Only drawback (for elder persons like me): you need to download another keyboard, as the Google keyboard buttons are becoming to small on the small screen.
