- Windows 11 Pro build 26200.8524
About two months ago I installed beta version of 26H2 on my HP EliteBook notebook PC. Microsoft made me accept several Insider agreements before installing and I enrolled into Beta. Then after several weeks Insider Release Preview option appeared. I chose that. Two weeks ago, I chose to opt out of Insider program because actual release was imminent. Windows said "Opt out is scheduled".
On 13th of October, I updated to Build 26300.9711 through WU. Installation restarted my notebook several times with no problem. I shut down my notebook.
Today when I powered on my notebook, I got "boot disk not found" message and the notebook did not start. I rebooted the notebook, this time I got "Secure Boot violation" error. I disabled Secure Boot and my notebook started. There was no problem. I checked my enrollment in Windows Insider Program in Settings\Windows Update and saw that I was out.
I revisited Windows Update and checked for updates, I was offered "Windows 11, 26H2 Download and Install" option. I was already on Windows 11, 26H2.
Long story short, Windows 11 26H2 downloaded and installed and I went back into BIOS and enabled Secure Boot. Windows started without a hitch.
I thought this may be useful to those who may opt in and out of Windows Insider Program.
If you have Secure Boot and you opt out of insider program, you may face such an issue any time Microsoft kick you out of insider program. This is Microsoft`s way of punishing Windows users who have innocently opted in to Insider Program.
As a side note: If Microsoft want to make Windows users mad at Insider Program, this is the way for them to go.
Happy computing.
