Today I was on whatsapp talking to my good Scottish Aberdonian friend and up popped an AI message asking if I wanted to translate her speech into English

I would like to contribute to this thread seeing that we don't exactly have an "official" Discussion thread. (Which is a bit disappointing considering what the "Watch Out for RAM Prices" thread morphed into. Even if we had a LOUNGE per se for Discussion I think this would be a good way to liven things up a little. Could it be at the risk of becoming a bar room brawl? Meh. We debate here constantly anyway and consequently awareness is sharpened. Am I already off topic? Not exactly. Here's my contribution:

That's probably because we already know they're spyware.
Back around 2008, I remember reading that some Apple monitors had teeny cameras, mixed in with the pixels. ^^

They also got sued for Siri listen in on people conversations and sent that data in to apple. Apple to pay $95m to settle Siri listening case
Many people with Android phones have reacted to ads popping up after they have had conversations with friends on a coffee shop etc...

A lot of things on an Android phone want permission to use the mic, and camera.
Like Google messages, for example. I disable all those.

Google messages permissions. By default they're ALL allowed...

When Samsung said they were killing Samsung messages... I tried a few other messaging apps.
They all wanted access to the camera and mic.

I have a smartphone i had to use for 2½ months while waiting on delivery on my new Dumbphone, when they shut down 2G/3G phone-network.. so i installed that one with LineageOS to avoid the claws of Google

I like AI and i use AI almost daily for projects... But its me abusing AI,

... not AI abusing me.

Me and some friends at work were talking about random games and by the time I got home from work 8 hours later, I logged onto steam and that same game we were talking about was front and center as part of the steam summer sale, crazy huh, they can't be listening to us lol

I'm an old, ornery stick in the mud and I'm not about to change. Daughters all have Android tablets. Eldest does what she likes she's in her late 30's and independent. Second is home from university and owns her own phone. She'll be going back to her software engineering grind at the end of August. Says she's learning various ways to kill AI. The other two know that they don't get a phone from me. They can save their rubels and buy their own when they come of age. I refuse to have anything to do with cell phones of any sort.

I am an air-gapped student of the human condition. When I leave my door I experience this thing called liberty. No phone, no pool, no pets. Just me on disconnect. (Sung to the tune of "King of the Road".) Even my vehicles have GPS disabled and removed. Yup. I wear my tin foil hat proudly. I hate AI. My tin foil hat features a built in anti-AI extermination device coupled with dual Faraday hemispherical shielding. I realize not everyone can enjoy this privilege so I am indulging for as long as possible.

I'm not old yet.. but in a way I'm not changing either... as i never have used google in the past more then their search engine that was good in the past.. I started to really avoid Google more when they started with their stupid data collection hoarding.. then i got allergic to them.
So with installing LineageOS, i just did as before.. avoiding google.

I debloat/remove unwanted things too.. I dont want AI to be a part of my OS.. but i do use AI for projects and studying as it is a good tool, as long you using it right.
But this AI baked into windows and all its apps and core is just extreme and stupid.
