You know what, you found a flaw. I didn't even notice that All was gone. Sorry. If you can't see All Apps, you can't pin one.
If you ran it, just run the other reg file to undo.

No, I didn't run it. I was actually looking for a way to mark this as solved when the "Show Less" option caught my eye. I didn't recall seeing the option until the update upset everything. Darn!

It was a registry patch, which created the "14" key ...with the following numbers under it.

If MS turns ON the NEW Start Menu, the same way... we can turn it off with a quick edit.

The stuff in the RED box.
Burt MS didn't turn the NEW Start Menu ON that way.
If they had, we could just delete the numbered folders underneath the 14 folder.
That would give you the OLD Start Menu back.

It was just a shot in the dark. I didn't really expect you to have a "14" folder.
MS must have turned the NEW Start Menu ON, a different way.

You can choose which one you like best.

Personally, I think "List" is closest to the OLD Start Menu.

There's no "go back to the OLD Start Menu" yet.
Sooner or later, someone will figure out a way to do it.

I would say... check back in two or three weeks?

I'll make do with this. I was so grateful to find a way to "sort of" regain the utility of Start I had in older Win versions. Don't know if you noticed I pinned the recycle bin and control panel, too. Anyway, it seems they're intent on making Start worse. With this group's help I got Explorer functional, albeit not as good as it once was so I sure hope some future update doesn't undo the workarounds.

I may give it a try at some point. Wish the ViVe tool was a simple executable and didn't require going through cmd. I fear I would end up back here to get help undoing whatever I did wrong!

EDIT this wont work if you have got the new start menu via Windows Update
as you wont have the 14 folder/key in the registry

i have the 14 folder/reg/ key because i added this feature manually not by Windows Update
this was found out because my wife's system does not have the 14 folder/key
sorry about that Steve .

if you want the old style start menu back
with 'show all apps' and recommended not showing like this

open the Windows registry and find this key
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FeatureManagement\Overrides\14

right click the 14 folder/key
on this menu click 'Rename'

Rename the 14 folder/key to #14
save the folder/key settings and close the Windows registry

a restart will be required for the start menu change to take place.
