ALL THUMBNAILS GONE ONLY ICONS....BUT

Win 11 home 64 bit
I had irfan view installed, all was working OK, rubbish down restart only the icon of irfan view showed.
so open all jpg, png with win photos.
No thumbnails showing (see snapshot)
I have tried ALL what has been suggested on web sites, gpedit, regedit, group policy, reset cache, reboot safe mode, disable icon show thumbnails.
I even stsytem restore to like 2 weeks ago (to be 100% certain i didnt do something the last few days)

i have exhausted the web...LOL

At the same time, the notepad icon changed itself, and the notepad, calculator & win security icon in the taskbar all went BLANK ...theyre still there but dont show up

what the hell have i done

I doubt that I understand your issue. If all icons are messed up, this may be worth a look: icon cache

Did that, delete cache, restart, win will automatically restore icon cache

I have followed everyone of these.....................still all I get is icons on ANY jpg/png on desktop as indivdual files, or in documents folders, open a folder and only icons, not even a window photo icon...just a blank icon box (as the snapshot)

Make sure there is no checkmark as shown! That is found in Windows Explorer at the top , click on the three dots and then options

show thumbnails instead of icons > advanced system settings

done that right at the start...like ive said ive exhausted the web fixes..LOL

Did you uninstall irfanview? If so maybe file associations are messed up.
Maybe reset file associations. Apps > default apps> photos. Since you are getting totally blank icons something could be up with file types and file associations. then set it to show thumbnails or icons.

Try re-installing irfanview and see if the associations are fixed

Brink Does have some Tutorial on Resetting the associations.

Your icons aren't showing what file types they are. Do they still open in the Photos app? Untick this box,


then go to setting, apps, default apps, and choose default by file type and select Photos. Apologies if already tried.
