Alt tab menu losing focus

I recently changed to windows 11 and inmediatly I noticed that my alt tab is not working as it should. I have been googling daily to try and find a fix but so far found nothing.

When alt tabbing it seems to randomly lose focus in the menu, resulting in the menu remaining open after releasing the buttons, I can go full hands free and nothing changes, I then have to click on the window I want to open and it's quite annoying.

I attached a screenshot that displays 2 screenshots. Top part is as it should be with the blue indicator to swap between programs, if I release the buttons then it works as intended. The bottom part is where the bug occurs (doesn't take many tries to reproduce) and that blue indicator is gone, meaning I have to click the window I want.

Hi there! Welcome to the forum..

What have you tried so far? Please create a list (if the below doesn't help)

The standard way to reset and fix alt + tab
  1. To begin, click WIN + R to open the run panel.
  2. Type regedit then click OK.

3. Now, navigate to Computer > HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer.

4. Double-click on AltTabSettings in the Explorer section. Proceed to set its Value Data to be 1 and click OK to save your setting. (Create this value if it is not already there. (Right-click on Explorer to choose New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Then set its name to be AltTabSettings.)

I hope this is of some use.

Lets see, I tried the thing u mentioned before (no change so deleted that entry again).
• updating windows
• check the alt tab settings in windows
• enable peek (I have no clue what it does and as it didn't help I disabled it again)
• while looking for things I did I just found sfc /scannow, which (to my surprise since it's a fresh install from a week ago) actually did find some corrupt driver file named bthmodem.sys and repaired it. But again wasn't it.

I feel like I'm forgetting 1 or 2 more things but can't seem to find them.
I have not tried the legacy alt tab settings tho as I'd much prefer to stick to the normal alt tab if possible.

This should not be happening. Perhaps a “refresh” install will help. I won’t go into full detail on how to do this, heres some advice:

Make sure to follow the advice to keep everything. This is refreshing. (This tutorial is for windows 10, but just download windows 11 setup iso instead. FYI, there is a windows 11 version of this tutorial but does not describe the refreshing process which keeps everything.

Note: this will KEEP all apps, data and settings.

See if this works.

Done the refresh, tho it did delete apps and settings (god do I hate fresh install redoing all settings with a passion).

So far this does seem to have solved the issue tho, I haven't managed to replicate the issue yet. I will keep this post open for a little longer to be sure before I mark it as solved.

Great. Hopefully stays that way. I’m sorry to hear you had to fresh install.
