Microsoft is actually one of the more transparent vendors because of DDV, even though it collects a similar amount of diagnostic data as Apple and Google.

That may be so, but I still don't get it why in original setup Windows wants to send every character I type to their servers, probably including the passwords I am typing (even for opening local protected files)!

Fortunately I (still) can say no to that option, but I guess a lot of people first time starting up their (new) PC did not realize what they were saying Yes to and simply allowing MS to get all information.

There is base telemetry that's going to be sent to Microsoft no matter what. That isn't going to change. The option that users can say NO to is whether to send additional information above and beyond base telemetry. I too say NO to that option!.

I did not mean it to be a conspiracy. I really don't care what is called conspiracy and what's not.
I simply don't want my keyboard typing (and other data I use locally) to be sent onto the Internet, be it to Microsoft or anybody else.
For that I have my reasons, which I don't want to explain here.

And I think I don't need to defend myself for having a certain opinion about being careful what I allow on my PC (which is how I feel at this moment, being attacked for my words).

I fully agree with you. Privacy and security is just as important to me. To understand what's really happening with Windows Telemetry you should actually see what's going on by using Microsoft's Diagnostic Data Viewer.

Microsoft’s Diagnostic Data Viewer (DDV) is a Windows app that lets you see the exact diagnostic data your PC sends to Microsoft, in raw, human‑readable form, grouped by category. It exists to give users full transparency into Windows telemetry.
This includes data from:
  • Windows itself
  • Installed apps
  • Hardware configuration
  • Reliability and crash events
  • Update and compatibility signals
Microsoft’s Diagnostic Data Viewer (DDV) is available from the Microsoft Store.

I do nothing to stop MS from collecting anything. That being said, is not this topic about alternative browsers as I use one -Firefox & Mozilla collects it own telemetry.
