Solved An FYI if you have a wonky erratic cordless mouse that sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.

I use a cordless mouse and for almost 2 years have had sporadic cordless mouse issues...mouse lag, mouse not responding, jerking, lack of focus from the mouse cursor. But it didn't happen all the time. No problems at all with a corded mouse. This happened using different ports(front & back), different PCs. I've been a longtime Logitech buyer and after buying and trying no less than 4 different new mice, I was about to go back to using a corded mouse when, quite by accident, I discovered a solution....a simple usb extension cable run from the back of my PC and stuck to the back edge of my monitor using double sided tape. This put the mouse receiver within 18 inches of my mouse as well as away from all the externals I had connected to the usb ports on my PCs. Haven't had a lick of trouble since.

Been looking at a new cordless mouse myself just this evening. Currently I have a Logitech M220 that is occasionally erratic, but I like the idea of the M240 as it's Bluetooth, so doesn't take up a USB port on my laptop.

BT is fine on a single OS or if you are not hosting VMs otherwise pairing each time you switch OS becomes an issue.

Thanks for that info. Fortunately my PC is native W11 so BT should not be an issue.

All along i thought something interfering with the dongle something to do with it, but to say I've proven that, I can't. I'd disconnect and move connections around and it would clear up but the issue would come back. I usually have any number of externals connected at the same time, external NVME drives in drive enclosures, a externally powered HDD drive dock, my ipad and iphone, and flash drives.

Quality of the mice may have something to do with it too. Granted, none of these mice are expensive Logitechs, just simple 3 button mice so they may not have the range or quality of a more expensive mouse. They're all the M325 (smaller mouse for small hands) so their dongles are all alike. I just know since I got the dongle completely away from the computers I haven't encountered the issue again. I even went back to several of those mice I thought might be defective and they all work as expected now. Sadly, I threw 3 of them away.

So why this worked I can't say. I only know that it did, so thought it might work for someone else with a squirrelly mouse.

I plug the receiver for my Logitech mouse into one of the front ports on the case, that puts it about a foot from the mouse. I had a similar issue when it was plugged into the back of the computer.

i had similar problems with a cordless mouse and found that moving the transmitter to the front USB ports worked
the keyboard was working fine it was only the mouse that was giving problems.
the front USB posts are also USB 2 where as the rear USB ports are USB 3, not sure if that made any difference.

I doubt that makes a difference, my front ports are USB 3.

My GPU fans don't run until 50C, but the GPU only gets there if I'm doing something graphics intensive. That's the default automatic setting for the Gigabyte utility, the GPU and motherboard are both Gigabyte. I fired up a GPU benchmark the other day just to see if the fans worked.

My mom's PC has a legacy Intellisense mouse, with the wireless receiver is almost as large as the mouse itself. If you don't give it a nearby, unobstructed view of the mouse then it works poorly. So this problem's been around forever.

I've been doing the same thing for years, though I have mine taped to the underside of my glass-topped workstation.
Back of the monitor is a great alternative!
Clearly it's a matter of distance.
It's the M510 for me; I make good use of the two side-buttons.
FWIW: It's great for my wireless keyboard too.

I think it's distance and/or obstructions between the mouse and the receiver.

I have had the exact same problem and used almost the same solution. I ran a USB extension cable from my desktop to the edge of my desk and hot glued it in place so that the top of the cable is flush with the top of the desk. Then I simply plug in the Logitech receiver, and it sticks up just above the surface of the desk. That places it about one foot from where I use the mouse and it's been problem free ever since.

BTW, the Logitech and other similar wireless dongles are highly susceptible to interference from USB 3 ports nearby. First, avoid plugging these into a USB 3 port and try to avoid plugging in a USB 3 device / cable to close to the receiver.
