I just downloaded the newest firmware updater for my WD19TB dock (file DellDockFirmwarePackage_WD19_WD22_Series_HD22_01.00.20.exe released on Jan 4th). My device is XPS 9500 (latest BIOS 1.25.0) running Windows 11 Pro 23H2.

I'd expect the standard firmware utility to be brought up when running the exe, but it's not the case. Instead, there's no GUI at all and something is apparently working in the background. All I see as a result is a message telling me the system needs to be restarted to finish the installation of the DBUtilDrv2 Device.

After restart nothing happens and I cannot find out if the FW has actually been updated and what its current version is.

Have any of the Dell users here encountered a similar issue? Possibly you managed to overcome it...

Thanks! I've actually managed to parse the Dell Update log that contains some system info. It tells me my current dock FW is 1.0.0.32 and the update offers 1.0.0.36, hence I'm eager to make it work.

Connect up the Dock.
I would go directly to the Device Manager and look for presumably 2 items of Hardware in the Dock then the Hardware IDs string.

Right click on the Device > Properties > Details Tab > Hardware IDs.

The Firmware version is at the end of the ID string.

Events Tab should show when the firmware update was done.

You rarely get any dialogue boxes, it just gets done, boom, no real issue other than your question "has it been done".

As you did it manually from the download then the Dell updater would not have logged it.

Thanks, already got the version and confirmed it the way you advised.

The thing is I still cannot make the updater work . This time the FW update has been found by Dell Update application and I was hoping it would help.

Unfortunately when trying to update via Dell Update, I'm only getting the information that the installation failed, no other details are given...
