Announcing COMMODORE 64 ULTIMATE

 commodore.net

Honouring the past. Innovating the future. Without the distractions that stole it.

Commodore has returned from a parallel timeline where tech stayed optimistic, inviting, and human. Where it served us, not enslaved us. We’re here to bring that feeling back - retro • futurism, transparent tech, digital detox, real innovation.

Our first step is your first way out. The glowing, translucent Commodore® 64 computer isn't a software emulator - it's the first official Commodore 64 in over 30 years, with a few new tricks.
  • Compatible with 10,000+ original retro games, cartridges, and peripherals
  • Game-reactive colour-changing LED case
  • Wi-Fi game transfer & USB "cassette" bursting with classic & new games
  • Transparent keyboard circuit board to let the tech speak for itself
  • Original C64 creator names/autographs etched forever into the mainboard
  • Spiral-bound manual, glossy classic box, and more
Whether you grew up with a Commodore or never heard of one, this is for you.

A simpler, distraction-free computing experience. A chance to learn how computers really work. A fun, inviting way to introduce kids to BASIC coding.

This isn’t tech that controls you. It invites you...

I once (very long ago) owned all Commodore components, was my first home computer (at my office I had worked with computers already since 1976).
- the Commodore 64 itself,
- the cassette player
- later on the floppy drive
- the Commodore color display
- the 7-needle printer

Made my first machine language programs on it, using an assembler program, made basic programs, modified games so that they would run endless in stead of having to start again, wrote my shopping and holiday to do lists on it. But it mainly was used as game computer by my two sons then. After that I have never been playing any games on any systems anymore.

Would I buy such a system now? No, defenitely not. But it's funny to see that some company has the gust to remake it!

I bought a Commodore 64 around 1981, when I was living in Germany. It was a great computer at the time. I remember using it with my radios to transmit/receive Morse code. The program I used was copied out of a 73 Magazine and heavily modified (by me).
I'll wait for the TI-99 to return.
My preference was a HP-41CV. For those who might remember the HP-41, mine was a BUG-3 machine. However, I had the Synthetic Programming software on magnetic card. I still have it, but it was superseded by a HP-48GX. Love those programmable calculators. I also have a TI Programmer, in case I need to calculate in Octal again.

I can still fall back on my slide rulers (K&E, Picket). The K&E slide ruler was my Grand Fathers slide rule from when he was in college (late 1920s to early 1930s). Still in good shape and never needs batteries.

True but eventually one needs expensive glasses to read them, and even cataract operations.

Worse still, these devices become inoperable as the hand arthritis sets in😂.

You say that like it's a bad thing. I am 76 and have been wearing glasses since I was 40. About a year ago, I went for an eye exam. It started to bother me that, all the cars on the road were just colored blobs. Turned out I had cataracts in both eyes. So I went to the Michigan Eye Institute. They specializes in eye surgery and I had the lenses in my eyes replaced. The surgery is very quick and I don't remember any of it. I walked out with 20/20 vision in both eyes. The best part is that, Medicare covered it all. Now, "The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades". My drivers license still says "Corrective Lenses Required", but I don't wear any. But I carry them with me, just in case I am stopped.

As for arthritis, I have had it in my hands since my 20's. When it becomes part of your life early on, you learn how to deal with it. I never let arthritis run my life.

I had cataract surgery as well and when everything was healed I just and an appointment with the DMV and got my eyes retested and they removed the restriction.

I was the party pooper before it was cool. Aged 11, I got the Sony HB75-P in 1985, the flagship of the MSX standard back then, which was a conspiracy between multiple big manufacturers and some shady corporation named Microsoft that, eventually, led to Commodore's demise. 😏

As for arthritis, I have had it in my hands since my 20's. When it becomes part of your life early on, you learn how to deal with it. I never let arthritis run my life.
I was joking!

PS My eyesight is better than since I was 7 years old as I have had cataract surgery in both eyes. Went from -8 diopters to -1.75 dioptres.

As I only had NHS single lens replacement (only option), I could not fully correct full dioptere 0range, so opted to be mildly shortsighted. This meant I could read, use pc and modest distance vision without needing glasses (ok in house).

I only need distance specs when outside. This is no big deal as I need shades to reduce glare in high sunlight (natural lenses are not fully transparent and naturally shield against bright light). To this end, I use reactolite lenses when outside.

I also use varifocals to save having to keep taking glasses off to read when out and about.

There is a website I use where I got frames, varifocal precription lenses with reactolite for £58.(approx 20% of UK high street costs!).

I was the party pooper before it was cool. Aged 11, I got the Sony HB75-P in 1985, the flagship of the MSX standard back then, which was a conspiracy between multiple big manufacturers and some shady corporation named Microsoft that, eventually, led to Commodore's demise. 😏
You mean this one :-)?

I remember at the time, the most popular (and more expensive) was the BBC computer - apparently the same as the IBM one (not sure if that's correct but it was what I was told). Until the Commodore 64 came along. A number of people had the VIC 20 but the Commodore 64 was better. It was the first time I used a computer, and did actually learn some "Basic" programming. After finally solving Lord of the Rings I gave up on the idea of computers as it kept me sitting still too long 😂 My next one wasn't until circa 2009 which was an Eee PC 701 - which kept me mobile - loved chucking it in my bag - it had an ssd - and using it everywhere. It was a "proper" netbook as actually the size and thickness of a book. Still have a couple of 701SD's.

I remember the craze in the mid 80s of BBC computers and Commodore ones, which was jokingly seen as Dads buying them to educate kids, but really wanting to play on them themselves :-) The BBC one was really quite expensive, as I remember.

I remember at the time, the most popular (and more expensive) was the BBC computer.....
I fondly remember the BBC Micro and perhaps the best game of all time, Elite - first released by Acornsoft for the BBC Micro. What made it particularly good to play on the BBC was the fine control available with the BBC Micro's fully analogue joystick. The port to the Comodore 64 was perhaps the second best way to play Elite.

Elite is a space trading video game. It was written and developed by David Braben and Ian Bell and was originally published by Acornsoft for the BBC Micro and Acorn Electron computers in September 1984.[2] Elite's open-ended game model, and revolutionary 3D graphics led to it being ported to virtually every contemporary home computer system and earned it a place as a classic and a genre maker in gaming history.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

I haven't heard of Elite, but it looks a bit like space invaders? I was hooked on space invaders in the 80s 😂 Many of the pubs had big space invader machines.
