Solved Another SSD!!

Truthfully you will NOT see a big (if any) speed difference between a 512gig and 1TB gig SSD/NVMe drive.
That depends (see below).
Also be aware performance can also be affected by amount of free space left on the drive - a drive half full will perform better than a drive near full.
In an apples-to-apples comparison, both drives contain the same data. I.e., if the 1TB drive is half full, then the 512GB drive is 100% full. Please don't blame me for this fact. I didn't design how SSDs work, nor came up with the idea that comparing apples and oranges is very bad...

Once again, there is no such thing as a EVO Pro, all your questions can be answered here.
Why would you want a 850 Evo ? The 870 Evo is the latest.
All Samsung standard SSD`s are 560 Read 530 Write
The 860 Pro is the best standard SSD Samsung has ever made and they are extinct.

What would your expert recommendations' be for install a secondary SSD 512 or 1 TB in size?

That comes down to 1) money, 2) how much space you need for the data intended for the drive.

Also (for me), I typically don't allow my drives to go over 60/70 percent full (a near full drive loses performance), so when buying drives, I consider the data it will hold and double the drive size - if I have 800gig of data, I buy a 2TB drive.

Don't get caught up in the "a 512gig will perform less than a 1TB drive" (where both drives are the same except for size). That's not how things work. And it's not like the speed doubles.

Hope this helps :)

I should think about when 70% of 512 which actually is 475 GB, is full?

It would be the percentage of space available on a new drive, so yeah, not 512, but the 476 available. Anyway, there's no need to "math it out" or rocket science it; simply watch the drive. This is clearly less than 70 percent used

It would be the percentage of space available on a new drive, so yeah, not 512, but the 476 available. Anyway, there's no need to "math it out" or rocket science it; simply watch the drive. This is clearly less than 70 percent used

My laptops SSDs temp is 55 C. Could it be that the lap isn't elevated to dessipate the heat? I can feel the fan running lowly on the left corner? Or have a high heating in the room?SSD.png

Thanks.

I can apply "that depends" to anything. It's the understanding of things that determines whether the "that depends" is worthy of consideration
Do you mean to tell me that the performance gap that exists between an SSD that is half full and one that is 100% full is not worthy of consideration? :eyeroll:

I did pay attention to what you said. You said that the drive's capacity doesn't have a big impact on performance, and then you went on to say that performance can also be affected by amount of free space left on the drive. (Amount of free space left on the drive, which, per definition, is dependent of the drive's capacity.) So I'll just repeat my question... do you mean to tell me that the performance gap that exists between an SSD that is half full and one that is 100% full is not worthy of consideration?

I said what I said, and you read what you read. The OP got it; others got it. I'm good :)

And we can all play the what if game, but the OP is looking for a simple answer, not a scientific deep dive of what ifs, and suppositions.

Peace
