Solved Any free .pdf editors out there?

Unfortunately, this is pretty common. You can still "fill" in their "form" using the PDF editor's tools to overlay any text you want, but it's tedious and takes more time than printing it and filling in by hand. I still do it though because it looks a lot better than my handwriting.

Yeah, I spent about an hour screwing around, trying to line up the text in each box properly and it just wouldn't do it. It kept treating each box to be filled as if it were a whole sentence to enter and not just one character.

I'll probably do the upload to the scanner option since I know that's the most secure way of doing it.

Unless some miracle happens to change anything, I already marked this topic as 'solved' even though it isn't.

All the same, I want to thank everybody for their help and input here. 👍

Adobe Acrobat Reader will fill in fields in a PDF.
It would not surprise me if the fields have not been created correctly or there is a permissions issue with the PDF.
Do you know what application created the PDF?

Most (maybe all) of the PDF editors out there also provide that functionality. It may be easier to use Photoshop if you are already familiar with that software.

Yes, but with Paint, you would have to first get the PDF into a supported image format (probably using a PDF tool that already has editing tools that work on image PDFs) and fiddle with page sizes.

Just export the form as an image, edit it and then print to PDF again. That would take just seconds to export and minutes to edit all over a cup of coffee. He's been messing with this for five+ days.

Okay...,
Here is a standard fillable form PDF in PDF-XChange,
with a standard row of cells. The entire row of cells is live, as you can tell by the faint crosshatch border around the row.
However, the first cell only is activate, but, by default, it will paste whatever values you have on your clipboard, sequentially...,
... you can backspace out of them if necessary, or press Reset if the page has a Reset button...

Here is the same sequence of events in PDFgear...

Even PDF Exchange won't fill the fields correctly. Try this one:

The pre-styled cell rows are lame, but PDF-XChange corrects it upon Save. It just looks stupid!

The sample he posted (Federal Form 1040) can be filled out then saved and then you can edit the saved form.
That's pretty good, most forms won't let you do that. So how was it done?

That was one of the many fillable forms that the IRS has.
They aren't write protected as many are.

I'll give it a look, I already have two PDF editors so I'll see if this one easy to use

Well that was easy. If I just want to edit text in a PDF I can do it without searching through a maze of features or reading a manual. I think I'll keep it for a while and test drive it some more

I'll give it a look, I already have two PDF editors so I'll see if this one easy to use

Well that was easy. If I just want to edit text in a PDF I can do it without searching through a maze of features or reading a manual. I think I'll keep it for a while and test drive it some more
I haven't tested MiniTool PDF Editor yet.

By the way... I'm surprised how many programs MiniTool has these days.
