But to answer your question, I never used anything for the past decade but Windows Defender.

And Windows Defender is a Microsoft business. And they too will say anything to make you believe in Windows defender.

I like to think that having a "different" antivirus, is like having a second opinion, on retainer.
I "know" they won't be pushing the Microsoft agenda.

Exactly. Why are other entities meddling with MS business?
Been there. Done that. I had a 3rd party AV a decade ago. Nothing but annoyance. They do make you feel that they are working by interferring with what you are doing which the Defender does not do once you set it up correctly. I made the switch and I was happy.
Opinions are usually only as good as opinions.
My bottom line here is that this post is a clickbait. The OP did not give us enough context.

It is The PC Security Joke Channel, it is good for a laugh, but I would not take it seriously.
Besides the report is made by ESET, they deal with a theoretical malware to sell their AV.
is w11 secure with defender?
11 is secure even without Defender thanks to smart screen, smart app control and etc. Defender is just a cherry on top.
But it all comes down to the user. If the user will send the hacker the password for mere asking, no OS will protect him.

Vista was the most secure Windows ever, but users complained about UAC, so we got this.

You're good without it or defender for that matter provided you're heads screwed on. Personally run it off along with smart screen, smart control app etc as well. Again if you need em you need em. If you dont you dont.

Definitely.

I'm happy with the way Defender has been accepted. It keeps the prices on the 3rd party AVs, amazingly low. :-)

I just looked at the owner of that video and I turned it off. It is a PC Security business.. They will say anything to make you buy anti-virus crap.
But to answer your question, I never used anything for the past decade but Windows Defender.
They're not selling any anti-virus - their business side revolves around "services (testing a bushiness system for vulnerabilities - which usually involves end-point security - while top of the line is 100x more expensive than normal/mainstream AV - so it might be worth checking its efficiency - just to make sure the company's not wasting thousands of $ on a mediocre product/services)". That dude's simply passionate about security and that's what the channel is mainly about (testing random AV products - even comparing them with one another, security breaches - but mostly windows related, old and new malware tests, browsers security, etc). All the AV services/products it recommends are part of the "sponsorship" program. Yet, they're all popular AV solutions - even competing against one another. Basically, earning so money from advertisement - but at same time - he does make honest reviews (not rigged or meant to promote an AV solution in a biased way). One could actually learn a thing or two from his content.

yeap... i was post somewhere in here (or tenforum) i was "lightweight av lovers" but since (someday) i try new w10 version in that time... i see the different not too much. ms do their homework about resources.... and no body know you home except your self....
so i stop using 3rd party tools like tools like defrag, iobit pro (i was tuneup utilities "must have" user), reg cleaner. etc...
today i use windows defrag & defender & chkdsk it self... except revo pro of course (still use it lol)

Chrome is a Google product and works independently of Microsoft Products.

Windows Defender and Windows Edge are Microsoft products and are designed to work together.

I prefer using Defender with Edge.

There's so much B/S with Ms and security --nobody these days wants to launch a product with bad security -- even that notorious site flying the "Jolly Roger" flag checks a load of its torrents for malware and other payloads.

Ms's very successful commercial cloud server Azure has security in it of NSA and US Military spec quality-- and WD is derived from that. Most domestic Windows users who have problems with fraud, hacking etc is usually because of scams, giving out too much data on social media etc rather than out and out computer attack.

Not many complaints on these Forums from domestic W11 users about security problems when using latest versions of W11. In fact a lot of the problems come from either a lot of tinkering with the machine or in using 3rd party products in conjunction with WD which probably results in the worst of both worlds .. "Too many cooks ...." etc.

I haven't used anything other than WD from W10 onwards - and never had a problem.

@TraderGary

I do some day trading using AJ Bell 's software on W10 / W11 -- never a single problem. OK as a retail investor -- not a serious pro but I've no concerns over the integrity of the OS as far as security is concerned - As to W11's stability -- that could be questionable --you don't want a failure if you are trying to close a position in an adverse market !!! -- however the best for that is to have a dedicated machine for all your trading stuff and do all the other things on another machine. -- A bad or interrupted trade could cost a lot more than a new laptop !!!

Cheers

In the last 15 years, I used Avira, Kaspersky (paid licenses), and I’ve had MS Defender for the last 4 years. I know that what I’m about to say is debatable, but as an average user there is no malware out there. In 15 years, I’ve never ever had any notifications of a threat from the above mentioned AV companies, and believe me, I’m not exactly a safe internet user (always operating in admin mode).

I believe that F.U.D. is absolutely necessary as a form of negative marketing to procure enormous profits to third party AV companies. In my opinion the party is over, MS Defender is good enough because malware writers don’t waste time with average users. If you run a big company or you are a celebrity, then perhaps you should be a bit wary as you might be targeted.

@jimbo45, Every trade I make is a compound trade. I use an auto calculated percentage combination buy-stop, sell-stop, stop-loss. The trade doesn't fill unless the trade is moving in my direction. The moment it fills, the stop-loss is in place, and the profit sell-stop is in place. No active trade management is needed. Even if all my hardware and Internet connection were to simultaneously fail, the trade would still run to completion, exactly as planned.
