I have 2 routers
Smartcom GE DB - came with the isp and I often loose connection for 10-15 seconds
TL-WR740N(TP-Link) - this one is mine that I get 9 or 10 years ago and unless I am missing something,it supports only 2.4gbz and the speed I get over wifi is around 6mb/s(the other one is at least twice faster over wifi)

If I connect to the Smartcom,I often loose connection for 10-15 seconds
If I connect to the TP-Link,I have solid connection

If I connect the TP-Link to the Smartcom(the internet cable goes to this one first)and connect to the TP-Link one from my laptop,I loose connection
If I connect the TP-Link(the internet cable goes to this one first)and connect the Smartcom to it and then connect the laptop to the Smartcom wifi, then I loose connection again

If I connect the laptop over lan from the Smartcom(the internet cable goes to this one first),then I loose connection again
If I connect the laptop over lan from the TP-Link(the internet cable goes to this one first),then I don't loose connection
Over lan I get the full speed I paid for but the problem is,I cannot keep the laptop connected over lan

Phone your ISP and tell them about the problem.
- Make sure you explain that you swapped around with your old router and that the results demonstrated it was the ISP's router at fault.
- I suggest you do not state details of your experiments [unless they ask for them]. They are liable to misunderstand those details then use that misunderstanding to justify claiming that there is nothing wrong with their router.
Demand either a fix or a replacement router.
And do remember to change the replacement router's password from the default it comes with. Those default passwords are known by every online hacker.

Best of luck,
Denis

I find that the biggest cause of router issues is the power supply, do you have one of similar or higher spec's you can try?

Unfortunately I don't,the higher spec one requires 12v and the adapter for the old one is 9v

btw what will happen if I connect a usb wifi adapter, connect to it the slow but stable wifi and connect the fast but instable one to the build in wifi
What will the laptop use to send/receive data

The one that it thinks is the faster connection.
I have never seen any explanation of how it makes this decision.
