I like using kindles etc. So the Calibre Free e-book manager is great -- and being able to translate between the various formats - in particular between Amazon's lzw and the epub format means you aren't restrictedonly to amazons e-book selection. I travel a lot and waiting around in stations, airports etc it's so much easier to carry around a kindle than a load of actual paper books especially with weight restrictions in planes these days.

Really brilliant program for those using any sort of e-book readers. And it's Free -- works also on Mac, phones (android), windows and Linux.

(Note of course there's an Eng version but interface the same - also can de-drm books too if you buy them from amazon).

I let Calibre go..., I just use Sumatra for the occasional peek at an ebook.

I do believe you can configure Calibre to use it though, so it is kind of related.

I started using it some time ago, and I actually like it. It has everything I need, so for now I'm not looking for any alternatives.

I only need to read .epub files, no need to edit them.
For that purpose, Sumatra PDF (which already was on my system) does the work very nice (and is a very compact program).
The book subfolders in my documents folder are organised as such, that I don't need a library program.

So for me no need for Calibre. Downloaded and installed that a few years ago and decided it was not the user-friendly program I was looking for just to read E-pubs on my PC.

Did not remember exactly how it looked, but when I see this program-header I know why Sumatra-pdf was and still is in favor for me for just reading books:

I like Calibre. Guess I'm just old fashioned. What I don't like about Calibre is the way it tends to hijack my tech manuals. lol I'm sure there's a work around for this. Also, if I don't have time for reading I can still use the audio book option while I do other things. Admittedly, I might not catch everything when I use this option but I can always go over it another time and "replay the tape" from wherever I left off. Calibre is relatively user friendly, I find, but I'm also pretty lazy. No doubt there are better apps out there. Again: User preference.

I agree with you, @Edwin. I don't have a book-reader on my PCs. I have Kindle on my iPhone, and that does well for me when I'm travelling or just want to read late at night in bed.
