Update to the latest BIOS to get​

Windows 11 support​

I just chatted with a Dell rep asking him 'Will the Dell Inspiron laptops be sold with a warranty that they can be upgraded to Windows 11?' He had no clue, completely misunderstanding what the warranty was all about. I did not bother explaining.

I wonder when the Windows 11 goodies will trickle down to the point-of-sales❓

Fair enough (y) At the end of June, all big vendors including Dell made public statements that their products will be Windows 11 ready. That appears to have subsided in recent weeks (?)

Depends.

I didn't look very carefully, but it looks like the 8th generation Intel CPUs appeared at the end of 2017. The AMD Ryzen third generation processors, early 2020.

I have a Lenovo laptop that meets all Win 11 requirements, except it has a 6th generation Intel CPU.

If it wasn't for the CPU requirements, I believe that every PC that was certified for Windows 10 would qualify for Win 11. The device security features may not have been turned on by default, though.

Windows 10 device security

It's a bit confusing (to a layman like myself), but it verifies that hardware security requirements are present for certified Windows 10 PCs. I presume that's all PCs from major manufacturers.

MS allowed PCs that didn't meet those requirements to be upgraded to 10. Looks like they want to be stricter with 11.

Unfortunately, a PC can meet every single device security requirement but still fail for Win 11 based on its CPU.

If that is not arbitrary, I have yet to understand why.

Isn't there a difference between 'secured-core' and 'certified'? At least the words are different. In any case, there is a whole set of differences between 10 and 11, not just security, CPU age, and what not.

Why the differences? I don't think it is arbitrary, it is the almighty $

Edit: I didn't mean 'almighty $' in a negative sense. After all, we have benefitted from better and better computers over the years, although we paid good $ for it too.

Does a simple bios update suffice to pass for W11 ready?
Reason I ask is that Asus lists the MB I use as compliant but I acquired it without the TPM2.0 module installed.
Shortly after that I bought such module and installed and changed the PTT settings accordingly.
So, why does ASUS lists MBs as compliant when I think they can't be without the module present ?

Most Asus updates Win ready just enable PTT by default.

Because your CPU has TPM capabilty built in so it was already compliant just needed enabling in the bios, been built in since around 2013, Generation 4 Haswells and upwards.

If you enable bitlocker all keys are saved to processor. A dedicated chip doesn't have those issues.
