Audacity Will Not Record.

Hi. I have a new Velocity Micro PC with Windows 11 Pro. I've installed several versions of Audacity and there is no problem wit installation but music will not record. The VU meters show activity but the waveform is flat. Am I missing something? Can anyone help?
