Auto sign out

My PC is set to never require me to sign in when computer has been left. However, when I have been away from it for some time, I have to sign in again. How do I stop this happening?

Check your power settings. If the computer sleeps after some time or a screensaver is activated, you may be required to login again. You can change the settings to not require login again after waking or closing the screensaver. You can find the screensaver settings in Settings, Personalization, Lock Screen

Thank you for your reply. I have windows slideshow, so screensaver is disabled. Been away setting is set to NEVER.

Not happy altering the registry. Is there any other way?

Does this *always* happen, or only sometimes?

Is it after a definable period of time that you've been away?

Is it overnight?

When you log back in is everything exactly as you left it, or only some things?

Happens after about 30 minutes. Log back in and everything is as it was.

OK, so it's not applying updates in the background. I wonder if it is scanning your system after a set idle time, and thus it locks it?

Check the usual things, particularly your power plan, as it does all sorts of things, like enable timeout periods for drives, enables hybrid sleep, and more stuff, and includes the system sleep time in there in the advanced settings too.

Ahhh, that makes a difference. If you can remove it,. won't hurt to try and see if it is directly related to the update.

Or else, if you have a system image from before the update, restore that.

Good idea, too, to see if it is the update ... or something else.

Problem is caused by KB5022913. Do you know how I can remove it. It is not listed in the uninstall updates list.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

However, that might be tricky, as that update has been superseded by a newer update.

In Windows Settings --> WIndows Update --> Update History, in Quality Updates section, is KB5022913 the newest one or is there a newer one (KB5023706)?

The reason I ask is that running dism /Get-PackageInfo /PackageName:package_for_RollupFix~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~22621.1344.1.15 generates an error unless I include the /online switch for dism as well. And running DISM /online /get-packages shows 913 as superseded by 706...

I have done a system restore, and now everything is fine.

Do you know how I stop that specific update from coming in again? I don't want to stop auto updates, but don't want that one again.

Uh, fastest way would be to manually install KB5023706, since it supersedes that KB5022913 anyway lol.

But KB5023706 may *also* cause an issue - but since you have a system image, it would be a good, fast and easy check.

If it causes the issue also, restore again.
If it does not, you're golden, because with KB5023706 installed, KB5022913 will not install.

I have got KB5023706, but it still installed. Is there a way to stop it installing?

Wait. You just did a system restore and 913 is gone - did it automatically update and get 706 and the issue is back?

Or are you saying before the system restore, you had both 913 and 706?

Before restore I had them both. Did restore, still there, problem gone. Not sure if there was another update that came with them.

I'd say keep that restore point handy and watch what gets installed in the next day or two, and see if the problem returns.

Might even be a driver update of some sort.

It just installed KB5023706, and I am back to square one. will do another restore and think about stopping updates.
