Backlit keyboard doesn't stay on after rebooting or cold boot up

Everyone on Amazon that purchased this keyboard tells me it's on my end as they don't have any of the issues I'm having so I assume that it must be something that can be solved, probably via the BIOS but upon looking over the BIOS for some USB "on" default I came up empty.

It's a Gigabyte motherboard for AMD Ryzen 7 processor. So the BIOS look different than when I was using an INTEL processor. So maybe they have things labeled a little differently, I'm not sure. BUT with my visual issues as I'm aging I really need this keyboard to be ON when it's booting up. Seems that the USB drives all are on and functional so maybe I just got a bad keyboard. I would think that if the drives were also not booting up and live when I get to the logon screen then I would understand but for them to be on and functional when I get into Windows I'm not sure what to think here.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Richard

I just need to know if there is a BIOS setting to change it to always on. If so I'll go that route first. thank you

It is not CPU specific at all, and the keyboard is not faulty. This is related to power management and USB device initialization and is really hard to adjust. So the short answer is no, there isn't a magical setting in BIOS for this.

What you can do (no guarantees)
- Enable USB "charging" in S4/S5. MSI calls this On/Off charging, and as for Gigabyte boards it is just plain EuP 2013 or something similar I think. Related to power management, to keep USB ports powered at all times.
- Enable full USB initialization in BIOS. (you might want to play around with this, OS can also initialize them for you but that comes a few seconds later)
- Possibly allow wake by keyboard , disable powersaving (in device manager, windows) for keyboard, this of course means you will be able to wake up from the keyboard while in sleep

The key goal with these steps is to prevent tripping the power to the keyboard, which would turn off illumination. Instead you would just leave it powered on and lit. Or you could consider not shutting down Windows but rather just using sleep (S3/modern standby) which is more lenient on power throttling.

EDIT: it is possible that the keyboard itself is constructed in a way that it does not allow, or actively prevent auto-illumination, in that case you're out of luck. In that case I'd consider a keyboard that plain simply "remembers" (in a on/off switch way) the illumination state.
HAMA KC-550 is what I have, and it turns on every time I turn on my computer, unless I pressed the sun key before shutting down Windows, in which case it would remain dark.
The brand KOLINK in the KBK series also offers some similar keyboards which have this feature you're looking for.

Good luck

OK, under the Serial Bus Driver area there were ALLOT of these with power management box checked on so I unchecked all of them and will see if that does the trick!

The keyboard you linked me too is not in the USA so not sure if Amazon carries it or not. Did a translation, it's a Hungarian keyboard layout. Checked on Amazon to see if it's a known company there but I guess not. Oh well!

It's under my Computer Specs!

I can't download your motherboard manual until you lkist the correct model. :-)

Little tip: Don't buy a $30 backlit keyboard.
I know this will seem crazy... but spend some money on your keyboard. After all, it's how you talk to your computer.

Here's an indestructible backlit, mechanical keyboard, that just works... forever.

You can find decent backlit, mechanical keyboards for about $70 and up...

I learned to type on Model 28 teletypes. They have about 1/2" of key travel before the key pressed will activate.
Consequently, I type like a pile driver. I go through keyboards like the one you bought, about one a month.

I finally bought a Ducky Shine II, in early 2013. It's... still going. Nothing has failed.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
All I can think of is the keyboard might use a key like "ScrollLock" that toggles the backlight on and off.
It might reset to off at the computer power down.
You might need to hit that key at each boot.

See if your BIOS has a setting called "Erp"
It might help either by enabling or disabling the backlight function.

EDIT: Sorry, I realized I just repeated parts of @ish4d0w post.

So you've got a Perixx PERIBOARD-331

Funny, I've got a similar one, the Perixx PERIBOARD-317
I had a different problem. I had to enable Erp to turn off the backlight when the computer is shutdown.

Richard, I had a similar problem with my Corsair K70 keyboard. There's software to run it. The only way I could get it to work is let it boot up without running the keyboard software and then launching the iCUE software once my system fully boots up. Corsair couldn't solve it, but what I do keeps it from going black. If I let Windows launch the iCUE software, the keyboard blacks out during Windows loading.

I know it's not what you're looking for, but it's all I have. I tried disabling all USB ports from going to sleep. Didn't work. Looked through the BIOS and saw nothing. It was a software issue for me.
