Most of us are not experts, but plane Jane users who want to ensure their documents, pictures and videos are backed up. I have Backer Upper, but would also like to have a second backup. I've tried the old Windows Backup and Restore, but it does not add new files and does not update old ones that are changed. If I try to use FreeFileSynch, it doesn't want to go to my folders on the C-Drive that I'm interested in. I want new files added and old files that have been updated to be replaced with the newest version. Right now, I'm using the Windows Backup and Restore, but I manually go in and change the things it doesn't update. The stuff I read here is usually way over the average users head. Is there a site that explains all of this in a way that rumdums like me can understand on our own? Thanks.

I've used a product called Syncfolders for years. It's simple and easy to use, free, and has a built-in interface to task schedular so you can run it automatically on a regular basis.

Personally, I prefer disk imaging (on a regular schedule) to other backup methods. Yes, it takes more space. But it provides the security of knowing if anything corrupts your installation, you can always restore everything (or just selected files / folders) with little or no hassle.

I prefer my own scripts for Backup and Sync processes but I also use SyncFolders for comparing my mirrors especially.

I use Aomei Backupper and also a 26 year old program named FileSync 2.18 that can be downloaded from

May be available from other download sight as well or I can share it if needed

I dont know if I paid for it or not but it says it is registered to me. You do not have to install it. It will run from any folder or floppy
By "FileWare Ltd" that I believe does not exist any more. Ive tried other's that do the same thing but this is the one I keep returning to

Compares and synchronizes folders and files locally,
across networks and over dial-up connections.
Supports long file names and UNC paths.
Can compare files based on time-stamp or binary
compare down to the byte level.
Include and exclude folders.
Include and exclude files based on type and age.
Change copy direction, delete files. Saveable profiles.
Comprehensive filtering options. Report printing.
Supports external difference viewers like FileDiff.

Note: The self extractor will not run on a 64 bit OS unless someone fixed that but I can re-zip up the extracted files.

Note: I just downloaded it from CNET (you have to navigate some BS) and did a binary comparison with what I have and they are identical

100%. When trying to get the Backup and Restore(Windows 7) to work, it doesn’t update any of the files I’m interested in and I have to revert back to that technique. Either I’m doing something wrong, or it just doesn’t work.
