Benefits of clean install after W11 upgrade

Yes that's the downside - as you know I just spent a couple of days doing that! Plus a couple of hours sorting out Windows settings. Hence system images are good once programs installed. I used to set up a lot of older computers and netbooks for donating or selling on, so just did the clean installs though and it is a lot easier that they are so quick to do. Not doing so much of that these days. Although I did just do it on an old HP 630 - only worth about £40 used. Nothing wrong with it and works really well. I'd have kept it but too big for me. Very scratched lid so I bought a skin for the lid.

I have a few programs I couldn't transfer from my old desktop to my new desktop. They were from those free software of the day sites.

Yes that's a problem if you need to do a clean install. I had that at one time but decided to replace them with something else. It was a video editing program I had. Since Windows 10 most things have seemed to stay compatible. Funnily enough the one thing that stopped me upgrading from 7 to 10 was Windows Chess. I didn't want to lose it! Until someone told me about the Winaero download for Windows 7 games - so then I upgraded!

Good point. I sometimes wonder if I'm addicted to clean installs :D Not on my main computer though - too much hassle. But upgrading old ones is fun.

Hi,
If one wants to clean install than skip the upgrade process entirely why waste time.

I'm sure you can still skip entering an activation key the system is already tagged by ms servers plus your ip address is too.

Ya this is the only drawback, glad I had a 2nd system to use while installing 11 :)

Although obviously jesting, the point is valid. MS have improved upgrades a long way from the old days where it was hit or miss.

One of the major improvements was the much improved driver handling of W10, to extent I never need to use sysprep any more.

I am like the laughing policeman when people say Windows 7 was best OS. Updates to that and relocating OS were like Russian Roulette!
