Windows 11 Pro for Workstation
One for the experts!

Have been fiddling with my Win 11 box to figure out why it freezes at boot with a USB card fitted.

Anyway run BCDedit & diskpart in two windows & I see this:

Should bootmgr device be the same as diskpart i.e. volume 2? How do I change it!!

Nope, but you would think so. Diskpart numbering starts at 0 but disk objects otherwise in Windows start at 1. So in your screenshots Vol3 in bcd is vol2 in diskpart.

By USB "Card", Do you mean a USB Flash driver? Or an SD Card? Or a USB HDD?
In Diskpart type List Disk. Is F: Backup a separate Disk? Does the computer boot normally without the "card" installed?
If so, that would suggest that the "card' has an issue.
Have you tried the "Card" on another computer?

If an SD card, are you using a USB SD card reader?

Tried the card on my old X99 box & it works fine, also bought a Renesas based card & it also locked up. Gigabyte recommended cards have only two ports, the cards I have tried had 4 or more ports. I have 2 port card arriving tomorrow will see if this fixes the issue.

New card arrived & fitted, some cheap 2-port card with Renesas chip & it works!! No lockups after several re-starts.
The BIOS does not see a hub but Windows installed Renesas Host Controller & it works.
So the question is does Windows 11 hate additional hubs & locks-up or is the BIOS the problem?
Why if I go through the boot manager does it work OK with a multi-port card?

What is the Make and Model # of the 4 port USB Card?
Have you gone to their web site and see if there is a Firmware Update?

I have a 4 port USB Card inside my desktop running Windows 11 and I have had no problems locking up or any other issues.
Your issue sounds more like the cards problem then Windows 11.

Updating your computers Bios, may help.

Card make is Yeeliya never found the makers website. BIOS is latest.
What motherboard do you have? I'm thinking these cards don't like the GEN4/5 PCIe slots.

It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
That didn't last long! Appears the Fresco Logic driver has a x64 hub controller driver that is not installed. So I installed onto the hubs listed as other devices & it worked. A reboot & it locked up!

I can only surmise that the FL5001 root hub controller is the cause of the lockups, this is a 4 port device.

Windows 11 driver is only picking up the FL1100 & not the FL5001 during boot, so why does the card work OK on my old X99 Win 10 box?
Are these cards simply too old for Windows 11 as the drivers are Win 10 & not Win 11 specific?
