Have been using Linux Mint for well over a decade so please forgive me if this is a stupid question
Just got my new win11 Pro 16GB Ram, 512GB SSD pc today.....and just finished updating.
I wanted to do one thing.
Download LOTRO about 40GB.
Any advice on getting proper spacing would be brilliant
Going to system/About/ is says 57GB out of 477GB all is well but....
Pop up message said I was running out of space..
Went to File manager. Drive in red saying 2.07GB free out 0f 57.GB
Disk management has the following:

Windows Build/Version
Win11 Pro

yeah it should be nowhere near that size. personally, i delete the recovery partition as i'll never use a factory image. i just made my own...

but i'm hesistant to tell you to delete that to reclaim the space because i have no clue how it got so massive.

assign it a drive letter so you can browse it and see whats in there:

right click on the 417.96 GB partition > Change Driver Letter and Paths..." then give it a letter from the dropdown. then it will show under This PC in file explorer and you can access it.

Cheers, but here is the state of play.
When I right click on 417.96 GB (Healthy recovery Partition) nothing except help comes up.
Right click on Drive C: 58.87GB has all options including, open, explore, change letter etc.

open Command Prompt as Admin and run these commands:

Code:
diskpart
Code:
list disk
Code:
sel disk 0
Code:
list part
Code:
sel part (put the number associated with the Recovery partition)
Code:
assign letter=w
Code:
exit
Code:
exit

then it will be a drive with the letter W assigned. now you can open it

I would download the free MiniTool Partition Wizard.

If you click on the recovery partition it will highlight how much of it is used. Using MiniTool you could then work out how to safely expand the C: drive.

if that route, no need to install anything. use the portable (64 bit in step 2)

Did you guys see that the recovery partition had 0 bytes used. No way did that device leave the factory like that.

if you have a new computer with none of your data on the computer
i would download the Windows 11 25H2 ISO from Microsoft
make a bootable USB stick/drive from the Windows ISO

when doing the clean install delete all partitions on the drive
and let Windows create the default partitions for the install and start afresh.

best of luck Steve ..
