Hi there,

I’m using windows 11 on my HP envy. It’s about 1yr old.
I got a blue screen after plugging hdmi adapter into one laptop (HP envy) and then using hdmi cable to link to a second laptop which is a dell. The HP laptop got a BSOD. The dell one seems ok.
The blue screen says “Automatic Repair”
Your PC did not start correctly
Press restart to restart your PC, which can sometimes fix the problem. You can also press “advanced options” to try other options to repair your PC.

Nothing is working. I’ve gone into Safe Mode but then I can’t access the WiFi so I can’t access troubleshooting.

There is also a yellow triangle on my device when I open the devices and printers and it says windows cannot initialise the device driver for this hardware (code 37)

Any ideas?

This doesn’t help your current situation but not all laptops allow a HDMI Passthrough. Most laptops only have HDMI OUT, not IN. There’s always a chance you can short out a laptop due to the current that passes through the cable.
What you want to do maybe possible wirelessly using Intel Unison, I am not certain

Your HP laptop doesn't like the driver. If no updated driver is available, you can't use the HDMI adapter with it.

Too bad it BSOD when you plugged it in.

Looks like you may have to repair Windows.

Unless Kim’s HPEnvy has a HDMI Input (I doubt it but I don’t know the model) no driver will change anything and could cause unrepairable damage if trying to connect two HDMI Outputs together as there is a 5v charge in them, sending that 5v both ways is a bad idea. Bad advice IMO without knowing the models of the laptops.

You would need a Hub with both HDMI in and Out

Find:

1) a bootable flash drive with free space

2) a flash drive that you can format (> or = 8 GB)

3) a working Windows computer

On the working computer plan to create tools to troubleshoot the problematic computer.

4) Using the working Windows computer and the bootable flash drive with free space download onto the flash drive:

HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp151501-152000/sp151612.exe

5) Using the working Windows computer and the flash drive that you can format (> or = 8 GB) create a bootable Windows 11 Media Creation Tool (MCT) (Windows 11 iso)

6) Comment into the thread after completing the above steps

7) Enter the computers serial number into the HP website and post a link:

Hi Zbook,
I’ve done steps 4) and 5) and then inserted the flash drive into laptop with blue screen. I’ve clicked
- advanced options
- use a device
- EFI USB Device
Then the windows set up screen appears and I click
Install now

There are 2 options:
Upgrade or customise and I clicked upgrade and got this message: the upgrade option isn’t available if you start your computer using the installation media. Pls remove the installation….
So I tried the customised option and got the attached options but I don’t know what to do now?
Pls could you advise me? Thank you for your help so far!!

1) Insert the bootable flash drive with HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI into a USB port on the problematic computer

2) Power on the computer while repetitively clicking F9

3) Select the flash drive

4) Run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI > system > extensive > take pictures > post images or share links displaying the tests performed with results

5) When available update the progress with step #7 in the prior post

Try another bootable flash drive.

Any bootable flash drive with free space can be used to download the HP hardware diagnostics:

I think I'm doing step 5 wrong

5) Using the working Windows computer and the flash drive that you can format (> or = 8 GB) create a bootable Windows 11 Media Creation Tool (MCT) (Windows 11 iso)
Please could you explain how to do that?( I tried a different Flash drive but got the same outcome as before)

Insert a bootable flash drive into the applicable port on the problematic HP computer.

Power on the computer while repetitively clicking F9. Confirm that you can boot to a flash drive and view files on the flash drive.

Then on a working Windows computer open the link for the HP UEFI Hardware diagnostics and download it onto the same flash drive.

Then move the bootable flash drive to the problematic computer. Repeat the steps that you made earlier but this time open the file on the flash drive for the HP UEFI Hardware diagnostics.

For the Microsoft Media Creation Tool (Windows iso) follow the text with images in the earlier post.

On the problematic laptop, once I press F9 repeatedly after starting, it brings me straight to windows setup, after I click next and accept MS licence terms, it asks me what type of installation do you want? Upgrade and Customised and neither works

Hi Zbook, thank you for your patience!
I have downloaded the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp151501-152000/sp151612.exe
onto the flashdrive and inserted it into the problem laptop. Then repeatedly pressed F9 and I get the attached screen and when I press enter it brings me back to the blue screen.
