Built In Teams App Question

So I finally upgraded to Windows 11 ver 22H2. So with that being said, I wanted to try and use the Built-In Teams app to sign into my work account without having to re-download the app. Is that possible? I tried to sign in and was met with a message about signing in with a MS account. IS there a way around this?

You need to download the office version (purple logo) so you can sign into company domain.

I thought at one point I was able to sign in. I didn't want to install apps. I figured I could just use it without having to install the version we use at my job.

You could probably sign in if your company does not have secure login protocol. Otherwise, you need OTP to use it for work related communication.

I know how to use Teams as I use it at work. I was just trying to avoid installing more applications on my Desktop

OK. I teach Windows 11 at our local Senior Center and we're thinking about moving from Skype to Teams. This article is pretty good; it tells me the difference between versions of Teams.

Personally, I think they made a mistake when giving both versions the same name!

I agree. I mean the only real difference is that it's Teams and then Teams (for work or school) totally confusing

No, the built-in Teams app can only start a conversation and invite others to join. You need the full app in order to join another one.

Alternatively you can (and I have) join a meeting with a web based version of Teams using Edge, though it's not got all the features of the installed app.

I think it also depends on Windows version too, right? If you have enterprise, then it will be a full featured Teams app for a corporate environment.

I am on the latest build 22 something. It just says "chat"

Nah. The one you're talking about comes with Microsoft 365.

I don't get the Teams thing either! 🤷‍♂️
I have both running...,
... the MSIX version seems to be a simple chit-chat app...,
... the Desktop version is the convoluted one, where you have to sign in and join or create some Org, whatever the hell that is..., unless you have a meeting link invite created by someone else..., like the one @cereberus created.

I have windows enterprise on my office laptop and I didn't have to install Teams. I just logged in.

Ok. Tried it. You have to add your work account to be able to use it.

I did add my work email and as expected I am being asked for OTP which I have through MS Autheticator app on my phone (registered with my company) but I really don't want to add my work account on my personal PC.

I created a virtual machine and added work account there to get round this.

I restored my PC after testing. I created a restore point. I just tried it out of curiosity.
