bypass TPM 1.2 and TPM 2.0 not working on older dell t3600 machine?

I've done the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup guides found online to put the 3 keys in and try to rerun setup, but each time it fails on the tpm check.

I'm running an older Dell t3600 with an e5-1650 3.2ghz 6 core pc.

Any ideas what i could be missing here?

I've even tried making a rufus image on a stick that doesnt have the tpm 2.0 requirement but that setup gives me the same error.

Hello Mark, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Unfortunately, the bypass only allows you to not require TPM 2.0. At least TPM 1.2 is still required though.

I had no problem installing Windows 11 on old systems without UEFI, secure boot and TPM. Even the graphics driver wasn't WDDM 2.0 or higher. The method that always work for a clean install is the hybrid installation media. You download a Windows 10 ISO of the same language. You create a Windows 10 USB Flash drive with that ISO, as if you want to install Windows 10. Then you download the Windows 11 ISO, mount it and browse to the sources folder. Copy install.esd or install.wim file from Windows 11 ISO (whichever applies) and replace the respective file in the sources folder of the Windows 10 USB Flash drive. Make sure only the Windows 11 file is present in the folder, don't mix the two. Now boot that USB Flash drive on the target computer. Setup will ignore any compatibility check and let you install Windows 11 in MBR Legacy mode. Done it many times, always successfully.

If you do a clean install, you can install on a system with *NO TPM* whatsoever. I am running Windows 11 on a system with no TPM at this very moment. Runs absolutely flawlessy on my particular system.

Instructions

Create your bootable thumb drive as usual but add a batch file containing the following lines to the root of the drive. I'll assume that you call the file "bypass.bat":

reg add HKLM\System\Setup\LabConfig /v BypassSecureBootCheck /t reg_dword /d 0x00000001 /f > NUL
reg add HKLM\System\Setup\LabConfig /v BypassRAMCheck /t reg_dword /d 0x00000001 /f > NUL
reg add HKLM\System\Setup\LabConfig /v BypassStorageCheck /t reg_dword /d 0x00000001 /f > NUL
reg add HKLM\System\Setup\LabConfig /v BypassCPUCheck /t reg_dword /d 0x00000001 /f > NUL

Boot from your install media and at the very first static screen (where Windows setup stops to ask you for input), press SHIFT + F10 to open a command prompt.

Change to the drive letter of your installation media. to do this, run these commands in that command prompt window:

C:
DIR

If you see the bypass.bat file, you are on the correct drive. If not, run the same 2 commands but use D: rather than C:. Repeat these commands using E:, F:, etc. until you find bypass.bat.

Type in "bypass" (without the quotes) and press ENTER.

Close the command prompt.

Now simply continue setup as normal. Windows 11 will install even without any TPM at all installed (not even a version 1.2 TPM is needed). Note that this will also bypass the supported CPU check, as well as the need for UEFI and Secure Boot.

Enjoy, but be aware that this is a technically unsupported configuration.

@Brink - I just wanted to point out that you can easily bypass the need for ANY TPM (you don't even need a version 1.2 TPM) so long as you are willing to perform a clean install. Details in post #5 of this thread.

A little bit of additional follow-up just to explain a little bit about how the batch file I describe in post #5 on this thread works...

That batch file is simply making some changes to the registry, but my reason for this post is to simply let you know that it makes no changes to the registry of the copy of Windows you are installing. When you boot from your install media, Windows PE is run, and it is within Windows PE that the installation of Windows is handled. When you run the batch file it is affecting ONLY the Windows PE registry.

This temporary and is lost after the first reboot during installation. It is no longer needed at that point any way, so this is just fine.

Bottom line: Don't go looking for these entries in your final Windows installation as they won't be there

I have noted these keys, but haven't thought to create a batch file for easy hacking. Thanks for sharing.

I ended up creating the batch file because I wanted to add it to an unattended setup so that my unattended installation of Windows would automatically bypass those settings. Lots of fun :)

The easiest way with rufus if you do a clean install. The picture shows the Finnish language, but the settings are probably the same in other languages. :) Only thing to do first is download official ISO from Microsoft.

I did this on a 10-year old HP laptop with no TPM, no secure boot, no UEFI just to see if this worked, which it did. Clean install was the only option installing from that USB stick. I do not recommend doing this on a machine you rely on for daily business.

I plan to clone my SSD on a spare SSD and attempt to upgrade my cloned Windows 10 installation to 11. Well, not my work computer, more like my main everyday home computer. I will have the chance to test Windows 11 in some games and video editing. It is an Intel Core i7 3770 (3rd generation), 16GB RAM, Legacy MBR installation, no TPM, no Secure Boot. I will report at the unsupported installation thread.

Thanks for the replies all, this makes sense now, that it only works on a fresh install. Im going to give the rufus no tpm a test soon and see how all this goes after acronising the old image :).
